  • "If It Doesn't Challenge You, It Doesn't Change You"

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Your donation has brought so much joy into our classroom. The students love their math games, and the social and emotional writing prompts. When the students opened this box, their reactions were priceless. They were so excited.

The math games have been used for math centers. They have shown progress with place value, telling time, and fractions. The two kinds of dice we have received have been used for multiplication and division facts. They roll the dice to get two factors and then they multiply them together to find the product. After that they can find the related division facts. It's a really engaging time for them when they get to use the dice.

Again, thank you so much for this donation, and know that you have made a difference in the lives of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stoecker

  • Music to My Ears!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Words will not be able to express the gratitude I have for you. When my students opened this box of recorders, they were amazed. They couldn't believe they will actually be playing an instrument for the first time. We use these recorders as much as we can during our last period of the day. They look forward to it each day. It motivates them to work their hardest, and show their best effort, because they know their favorite time of the day is coming.

My students learned to play hot cross buns and jingle bells during the holiday season. Jingle bells was very challenging but they learned a verse perfectly in two days.

Going forward, we would like to learn a few more songs, and our goal is to perform for other classes in our school.

Again, we graciously thank you for bringing joy into our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stoecker

  • The Only Way to Learn Math is to DO Math!

    Funded Dec 15, 2021

Your donation has had an incredible impact on my students and I want to thank you so very much! We received fraction manipulatives and rulers from you. Fractions are a brand new concept for third graders and it is one of the hardest concepts to teach conceptually. Using the fraction bars and circles has made a huge difference in being able to conceptualize the meaning of what a fraction is. The rulers were so helpful because each student had the same ruler with the same measurements. When the students bring rulers from home, often times they have different measurements on each side of the ruler. This was so helpful in our measurement lessons.

When the students opened this box, they were blown away with excitement, (so was I)! Thank you for bringing this enthusiasm into our math lessons! It makes a huge contribution to student's success!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stoecker

  • Back To School, Back To Reality!

    Funded Dec 14, 2018

I hope I can find the right words to truly express the gratitude I have for you for funding this project for all of the school supplies. My students were ecstatic when opening the package when it was delivered to our classroom!

The students use the dry erase markers and erasers for Fundations, shared reading, and math word problems. They use the markers to illustrate their writing, and the glue sticks to create amazing art projects. The chart paper and markers are used to create colorful, kid-friendly resource charts for the students. And finally, the copy paper is used to make copies of worksheets for the children.

What you have donated to my classroom is making such a positive impact in my classroom. It is so important to have supplies available for all students, especially the ones who can not afford their own. This donation is so meaningful to my students and me! I thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

  • Keep Calm and Focus On!

    Funded Dec 19, 2018

I hope I can find the right words to truly express the gratitude I have for you for funding this project for the ball seats and the reading phones. My students were ecstatic when opening the package when it was delivered to our classroom!

I use the ball seats in different ways. Sometimes they are used for the fidgety students. Some students struggle to sit still and focus while the class is sitting on the rug for a read-aloud or a mini lesson. So, while the fidgety students are sitting on the ball seats, they are putting their energy towards balancing on the ball seat, and they are able to focus and pay attention more. I also use them as a reward. Two students are able to buddy read together while sitting on the seats.

The reading phones are used during my independent reading center. The students love using these phones to read books on their independent level and their task is to monitor their reading to make sure it sounds right. They love telling me when they catch themselves making a mistake while using the phones.

What you have donated to my classroom is making such an impact in my classroom with student engagement. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stoecker

  • Reading with Kindles!

    Funded Feb 16, 2018

Where do I begin? My classroom has changed so much! Technology is so important in the education world today, and now my students get to experience it! They are so engaged when the kindles are out. Every single one of the boys and girls can't wait to use them daily.

Student choice is another important aspect in education. There are endless activities accessible on the kindles. They can choose from word games, sorting activities, e-books, and math games. I use them for explicit teaching as well as center activities, so that I can work with groups of children on a particular skill they need.

Treating the kindles with care and respect is another skill these young children have learned. They have learned to be gentle, responsible, and careful with these tablets. This is important to me as well because they are learning to respect their own personal belongings, and other people's belongings, with care.

This donation has truly made such an impact on my 1st graders from Brooklyn, NY!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stoecker

My students are 4th graders in a low-income area in New York City. Most of them don't have grade-level books readily available to them and believe it or not, most do not have a library card. Therefore, a love of reading is very difficult to instill in them. I want them to be excited to come to their guided reading group and learn how to read a book that is geared toward their independent or instructional level. One way to do this is to encourage them to become excited and enthusiastic toward reading by incorporating technology and reading books on a Kindle. I don't think any student would be opposed to reading a book on a Kindle!
