My schools serves a large immigrant community. The students are generally first or second generation. We have a large percentage of students on the free or reduced lunch program. Their parents are working class and most do not have time or the ability to help their children . Many of the students in my classes are striving to be the first in their families to go to a four year university. A roadblock for many of my students is that many students are English language learner so not only are they trying to learn chemistry but also the English language as well.
