When I look at my class I see students that have been in a bilingual class since kindergarten. They have many skills in both languages. Our goal is to receive the bilingual/bi-literate stamp on our diplomas. The only way we can do this is to continue reading in both English and Spanish.
We go to school at a title I school where more than 80% of us qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of us are in before or after school programs here at school so that our parents can work 2 and 3 jobs just to make ends meet. With that being said, we constantly need to be challenged so that we don't get bored or lose interest in school. We have a very high drop out rate in our area. With the gift of being bilingual we can attain great things if we are given the opportunity and believed in.
