As a Title One school where over 60% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunches and the rest come from upper- income professional households, we have a disparate community of “haves” and “have-nots.” And as a smaller, older school we often fall in a middle ground in our district where funding follows the poorest or most crowded schools – neither of which we are – and the more affluent schools where heavily funded PTAs are able to support special projects. We are however a wonderful neighborhood school full of curious kids with a stable community of committed teachers. We have more great ideas than we can ever hope to have funding for.
