  • Let's Learn Together

    Funded Nov 28, 2022

Thank you for supporting this project. The new resources have been utilized by my kindergartners as they developed both reading and writing skills. They really enjoyed matching pictures to letter sounds to make words. The white boards, dry erase markers, and erasers were very useful for writing words and sentences. It allowed them to practice drawing a picture along with a sentence. Furthermore, the bright colorful strips were useful for writing and reading sight words during small groups. Students read and wrote the words on the dry erase white board during independent practice. As students began reading and building confidence in sight word recognition, they practiced with partners based on their reading readiness which was either Level 1 or Level 2 sight words.

The students were very delighted and excited to use these resources during small group instruction and independent work. When they first saw the resources they were very excited and couldn't wait to get started. They were very thankful for all the

    resources provided this academic year.

Towards the end of the year students were able to read simple words and increase their fluency in sight word recognition. It is amazing how students entered the year not knowing letter sounds and at the end were reading words, sentences, and paragraphs. We thank you for supporting our project and giving the students resources that helped them meet the end of the year goals as they develop as readers and writers.”

  • Scientist at Work!

    Funded May 28, 2021

My students are using the resources to learn about the Engineering and Design Process. As they designed cars and planes, my students learned the importance of having a system to organize their thoughts and bringing their ideas to life . They learned that testing their vehicles was extremely important to determined what changes or improvements they could make to their design.

When they first saw the steam activities, they were delighted and couldn't wait to build them. They knew it was going to be lots of fun. And they were Right! They were able to test the airplane and car outdoors. They tested how far both the plane and car traveled when force was applied. They also learned that the way it is design can affect the distance traveled. They really enjoyed these activities. The next step is for my students to be able to explain the difference between Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy.

We are indeed thankful for your support and for giving them the opportunity to learn about science using hands-on-activities that truly help them create long lasting memories as they learn science concepts in a fun way.”

  • Understanding Fractions

    Funded May 10, 2021

The resources received have helped my students understand number concepts. It has really help to deepened their understanding in fractions. Throughout the year students have been studying how to read, write, and draw fractions. In addition, they've learned how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions using models to solve real world problems. With the use of place value manipulatives students were able to represent numbers both as fractions and decimals.

When students first saw the materials they were delighted to see the pizza fractions parts, the fraction tiles, and the base ten place value rods. Being able to see concrete models helped them understand fractional parts of a whole.

As we closed this academic year, the students were able to feel confident drawing models when solving fractions. Looking forward to next year, the materials will be part of the lesson planning and delivery to help students develop mathematical skills.

We are truly thankful for the resources you have provided to my class.”

  • Keeping Our Classroom Clean and Safe!

    Funded Dec 6, 2021

We are grateful for all the supplies you have provided us with. We are using the cleaning items in the class to keep our space safe and clean. Students and I are using the broom and dry sweeping cloths, to sweep off any small papers or pencil shavings that fall on the ground. Also, the Clorox wipes have allowed us to clean the tables at least once a week or as needed throughout the week. The working tables tend to get easily dirty and the Clorox wipes have truly made a difference. All other cleaning and disinfecting supplies are constantly used throughout the school day. Furthermore, the hand sanitizer and hand soap have allowed kids to keep their hands free of germs to prevent any sickness. They have been very useful and popular amongst kids.

When the students first saw the materials they were delighted. They really liked the idea of having hand sanitizers on their desk and receiving a small sized hand sanitizer to carry with them in their backpacks. They were very pleased to know that there are people who care about their well-being and who have made this project possible.

The next steps for my students is to continue learning about health and wellness as they continue using the materials through-out the remaining of the year. They have overall demonstrated willingness to be good citizens by cleaning after themselves and helping to maintain the class safe.

Therefore, we are truly grateful for having all these supplies in the classroom which have made it easier for my students to learn throughout the year.”

  • Essential Tools for Learning!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

We are grateful for all the essential tools you have provided us with. We are using the materials in class to keep our ideas organize both in math and writing. Also, the super sticky easel pads have truly helped me display and make anchor charts in both areas: math and language arts. This allows me to keep the Post-It chart posted in the classroom without having to use tape to keep it in place. Students can then refer to these charts through out the year.

Currently, the students are using their notebooks to keep their math concepts, vocabulary, strategies, mathematical explanations, and learning in one area. Furthermore, this allows them to be prepare and quickly be ready to start math. The students are using the writing folders to keep their graphic organizers and writing ideas in place. This makes it easier for them to find their work and to follow the writing process. As they learn to become better writers they can visually see the steps to the writing process both in their writing folder and in the Writing Process Chart that is display next to our writing bulletin board.

When the students first saw the materials they were delighted. They really liked the writing folders because it gives them many writing suggestions. They were excited to receive a stylus to use when using touch screens during math and/or writing activities.

The next steps for my students is to continue using the tools to create math and writing responses in class. In addition, as they create their Google Slides about a famous inventor they will find it easy to use a stylus. They will also be able to use their Sharpie markers to create art pieces for writing projects.

Therefore, we are truly grateful for having all these essentials tools that have made it easier for my students to learn throughout the year.”

  • The Power of Printing with Color!

    Funded May 29, 2020

The technology donated is helping my students learn both in school and at home. We are utilizing white boards to solve math problems. They are able to use a dry erase marker to write their mathematical solutions and strategies. In addition, they are able to write sentences and spell words utilizing the white boards during language arts.

So far, one of the technology tools that my students enjoy using the most are the white boards and dry erase markers because it gives them the opportunity to rest their eyes from using zoom tools. Also, since they love to share their thinking with their classmates and teacher, they are always eager to use them during class.

Furthermore, the printer has been extremely useful. I am able to print colorful vocabulary words in both reading and math for students to refer to.

We are truly grateful for the support. Thank you!”

  • Art Speaks Volumes!

    Funded Nov 16, 2020

My students are using the new resources by showing their creativity as they paint rocks and spread kindness throughout the community. Our purpose is to spread kindness by leaving positive messages on rocks.

When my students found out about the kind donations received, they were very grateful. They were extremely delighted to receive the Rock Painting Kits. They were eager to get started immediately and learn to paint on rocks. They mentioned that they had never done art on a rock, so they were curious and excited to get started. Students shared various messages and designs that can be painted on rocks. They really had so much fun painting that some of the students gathered more rocks to continue painting from home.

The next steps on our current classroom project is to discuss and write about the impact that showing kindness can bring to our community, especially during times of hardship. We want to spread positive messages in order to bring a sense of joy to people.”

  • Let Your Thoughts Fly With QBall!

    Funded Sep 5, 2019

My students are using the microphones in many different ways throughout the day. They are using the microphones to read aloud grade level text. During reading, students use the microphones to read aloud sections of reading passages and answer questions about reading. As they discuss their ideas they pass the microphone to the next speaker and their responses are loud and clear. In our classroom, we have been discussing the importance of fortifying our ideas by using text evidence from various sources. For example, students refer to the text and state the paragraph where they have found evidence that supports their reasoning. By using the microphones, students are able to hear each other and understand the reading. Therefore, using the microphones has given students a voice in reading.

At first, the students had mixed feelings about using the microphones to speak in front of the classroom. Despite being delighted to hear that our DonorsChoose project had been fully funded, they were also reluctant to be the first to use the microphones. They were both nervous and shy to use them for the first time. Over the past few weeks they have gained more self-confidence and are more engaged when they can hear each others voice in class.

The next steps for my students are to give Science, Health, and History presentations in the class. For example, they will be expected to present their science projects to their classmates. The goal is for them to continue developing their speaking skills as they share their projects. Therefore, I want to provide them with as many opportunities so that they can feel comfortable using technology to effectively communicate their thinking in all subjects with the use of a microphone.”
