  • Indoor Recess for All!

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Thank you to everyone who supported our project! These new items are going to give the students a huge variety of activities to engage in together during indoor recess and free choice times. Students will have new building supplies (marble runs, legos, etc), new games to play with each other and new project materials to be creative and choice.

I can't wait to share the good news with the students. We will be sure to have a celebration to try out all our new items when we return from Spring Break!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. S.

What a fantastic surprise! Thank you so much for your generous donation! We are so excited to have our project fully funded. The students are going to be thrilled! These items will touch so many students and will greatly enhance our learning environment! Students will have the opportunity to spread out around our classroom and work in any area that is best for them. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Creating a Sensory Smart Inclusive Classroom

    Funded Nov 12, 2015

Thank you so much for our new sensory resources! The students have been using these items daily since they arrived a few months ago. Every student has benefited so much from each of these items. Our white exercise balls are used primarily at our kidney (u-shaped) table where four students and a teacher work together. The students have become experts at using these exercise balls in an expected way that allows them to increase their focus level and stay motivated during guided reading lessons. Our blue sit disks and wooden chairs are wonderful. Some students prefer to use these while sitting on the carpet while others choose to use them at their desk. Both items work in both areas. The fidgets have been a huge hit as well. It is so fascinating to see which students prefer which items and how different items help each student in a way that they need.

The students were beyond excited when the materials for arrived. We were able to have one of our expert parents (who happens to be an OT in a local school district) demonstrate to the students how to appropriately and properly use each of the materials. Of course each child wanted to try each of the items immediately and we made sure they had an opportunity so that they would know how to properly use each item to ensure safety and success! Even after a few months, the students still love the items and continuously use the items with care.

It is incredible how a few small items have truly impacted our learning, reading stamina, focus and energy levels. Students have taken pride in the items we have and will often show or tell visitors how to properly use each of the items and how lucky we are to have these items. I am so thankful for your support. Please know that your donation has already made a huge impact on many students and will continue to in the future as more students use the items.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. S.

We are fortunate to have a diverse group of students with a wide variety and range in strengths and abilities. Along with these great strengths comes a variety of different sensory needs that need to be met in order for the students to learn. All it requires to begin running a sensory smart classroom is a willingness to look at the classroom and its routine through the lens of a child’s sensory needs, and the creativity and motivation to try to do something just a little bit differently. Many sensory needs can be addressed with little to no equipment however, some activities require special equipment. Some of these supports work for students who are distracted easily such as access to the a bin of various fidgets, and access to noise canceling headphones (if it helps the child focus, etc. as desired by the child). In between each academic subject time is dedicated to allow a movement break where students can access the various sensory materials in the room as well as engage in a group movement activity.
