  • Showing Growth in ELA

    Funded Oct 20, 2023

Our classroom is a warm and inviting space where a lot of reading, writing, learning and growing happens. I am a lucky teacher to be able to work with such brilliant children. The children benefit daily from the generous donations you gave to our class.

In ELA, the students work most of their time in small groups. This means that their seats often change. Your donations have enabled the students to have more choice in where they sit and how they engage in work in the classroom.

The books we received also allow the children a chance to see themselves mirrored in the stories in the room. This year, more students have said they want to become a writer or an author based on the great books we have in the room.

I am filled with gratitude. Thank you for your support.”

  • Collaboration and Books in Spanish!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

I wanted to thank you for your generous donations to the classroom library here in room 306.

Picture this: a student walks in from lunch. This student speaks and reads in Spanish as a primary language. So much of their academic world is in Spanish. But not in room 306. There are so many books in Spanish for them to choose from. They can read along with their English speaking classmates and enjoy the same titles that everyone else is reading. This experience matters.

That is the impact you have. Thank you.”

  • Spring Back Into Reading!

    Funded Jun 21, 2022

I wanted to thank you for your generous donations to the classroom library here in room 306.

Picture this: a student walks in from lunch. This student enters the room, puts their back pack and coat down and takes out their materials-folder, notebook and pencil. They take out their reading log and notice they have finished their book-book 3 in a series. They visit the classroom library and browse the shelves. Suddenly they see BOOK 4! They notice that the last time they checked, book 4 wasn't there and now it is! They are excited. Like so excited they say BOOK 4!! You got book 4!! They hug the book close. The book is signed out and the student hops back to their comfy seat and begins reading. This student is so happy. Their day has been made.

That is the impact you have. Thank you.”

  • Library Refresh!

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

Thank you so much for this library refresh. Your donations will keep my students reading! Each new text that hits the shelves brings such joy, excitement and engagement to the children. The 6th grade classroom library has become an important part of their overall 6th grade experience. The texts in our library act as mirrors for our children. They see themselves in the texts they read in our classroom. They see their stories matter. They also act as windows into other worlds and lives. Our library is the cornerstone of 6th grade ELA. Thank you for your support.”

  • Seating for All!

    Funded Nov 3, 2021

Thank you for your donation to my project--"Seating for All." My students love the stools. The stools have created several important opportunities. One is that students have been able to meet in small groups to collaborate. Another benefit has been where I can sit with small groups or have conferences easily. I bring the stool around to sit next to students to coach them in their thinking and push their thinking to the next level. Finally, students can be comfortable with where they sit. They find it fun to change up the seating. Who knew something simple like sturdy stools could make such a difference. That is because of you--thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sabina

  • A Book for Everyone!

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

This year is unique. I could tell right away that my students were looking for ways to feel normal again. Ways to get settled in, relax and read. Independent reading has been foundational to our community this year. The students missed holding real books--many of them only being able to read online last year. Now they are able to check out a book they have been wanting to read for 2 years and this has brought so much joy. That's what reading time feels like in our classroom. Joy. Students like what they are reading and in fact they are reading more than ever. I can't keep enough books on the shelf. The donations you have all contributed has meant that every child has a book they can take with them, read and enjoy then pass along to a classmate. It has helped them get back into the routine of school. The books from this donation have helped them make connections with each other, and of course me.

I am so appreciative of you. My students are too.”

    Ms. Sabina
