Reading Today for a Brighter Tomorrow
Funded Oct 19, 2010Thank you all so much for your donation to my classroom. The moment the first box of books arrived in my classroom, my students tore into the box and started debating over who was going to read which book first and asking when we were going to start a new class book study using these books. The excitement and delight in their faces over reading was truly exciting for me. It is amazing how something as simple as a beautiful new book, donated with them in mind, can inspire them to want to read.
We immediately began using the Bunnicula books for a novel study. After finishing that, we moved to Barbara Robinson, and now we are reading Seedfolks. The students really are enjoying these books and the novel studies we are doing as a class. It is so nice to have a book for each student so that they do not have to share and look over one another's shoulders! Additionally, the teacher guides donated in addition to the books have helped me to make their reading program more thorough and meaningful.
The impact that daily, high-interest reading is making for my students is apparent not only in their language acquisition, but also in their standardized test scores. More importantly, their enthusiasm for reading has skyrocketed along with their comprehension! I am so thankful for donors like you who care enough to take the time to make a small donation which will have a huge impact on the lives of my students. Thank you so much!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jurca
This classroom project was brought to life by Townsend Press and 7 other donors.Watch For Falling Furniture!
Funded Feb 8, 2010Thank you so much for the wonderful materials that you donated to my classroom. Due to budget restraints in our district, classroom furniture in good condition is difficult to come by. The wonderful furniture that your donation bought for my classroom helped to not only bring color to the room, but much needed storage and organization as well.
The beautiful English-Spanish see-and-say rug helps my newly arrived Hispanic students to make connections between the Spanish words they know and the English words they are learning. The colorful storage cart provides a space for each group of students to store their textbooks, workbooks, and other materials. The excellent computer cart has created a space that is ideal and comfortable to students for computer learning time.
Your generosity has made my classroom a much more comfortable, colorful, and organized environment. Research shows that when students feel comfortable, their minds are more ready to retain the information that they learn. Your donation is certainly an investment in the future of my students, and our class is very grateful. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jurca
Reading is the Way
Funded Feb 8, 2010Thank you so much for the materials that you donated for my classroom. The TIME! for Kids magazines and the READ! Magazines have provided my students with valuable opportunities to increase their literacy skills. With these magazines, my students have had wonderful exposure to the four main genres that we study in class and that they are tested on at the end of the year- fiction, non-fiction, drama and poetry.
The thesauruses have helped my students in expanding their vocabulary by helping them to learn synonyms and antonyms for many words. This has not only improved their reading comprehension, but also their writing by allowing them to make their writing more interesting and colorful.
Thank you again for your generous investment in the future of my students. Your donation has helped them acquire and practice some very important reading and writing skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jurca
