Remember When You Did Hands-on Science Activities in School?
Funded Dec 4, 2016As you know, we received postcards so our teachers can order the butterfly larvae as the weather gets better. We are so excited for the arrival of the package in the spring. Presently, the students are carefully investigating the life cycle of the butterfly and have their journals ready to record their observations. I hope your friend enjoyed the book, Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert. It is one of the students' favorites. They also really enjoyed making the butterfly kisses for their new friend and donor! Thank you so much.”
With gratitude,

Little Mathematicians Join the World of Learning
Funded Oct 4, 2016We are teaching our students to solve problems using different strategies. The number line and the 100's chart enable students to visually manipulate numbers in a way they can understand. I was working with Jaxon the other day and he had an aha moment when he solved an addition problem using the 100's chart then ran to the number line and got the same answer. He squealed, "I was right, I was right"
When the package arrived, I entered the classroom with the "present" from Donor's Choose. As the students arrived and were enjoying breakfast in the classroom, I let the boxes sit while they finished their breakfast and the excitement was building while they speculated about the content of the packages. I gave some some hints as they began to guess. While I unpacked the boxes, they couldn't wait to show what they already learned and to explore more ways to add.
The next step is to use the number line and 100's chart to subtract and for the students to explore the relationship between addition and subtraction. Thank you for helping the little mathematicians of the future.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Folan
