  • STARS Coffee Cart!

    Funded Jan 20, 2019

The student were excited to practice their math, speech and social skills with new supplies and a state-of -the-art coffee cart. First we all unpacked and practiced taking mock ordered to familiarize them to all the new stuff.

On a snowy February day, we served our first cups of coffee! The students worked together to fill the orders with specific details about how many of each add-ins per order. They walked to each room, greeted each individual, presented the order, received payment, made change, and closed the conversations appropriate to the best of their ability. With each order, the students will learn skills that can't be taught with "regular" school supplies. However, through your generous donations they will be gaining those valuable skills and for that we are grateful! Our speech therapist will be providing speech services as the students are interacting with the customers to work on social skills.

As the students get more familiar with the coffee cart process, we will be adding in some small baked goods to sell. Our goal is to fund-raise and purchase t-shirts for our students to wear to promote our coffee cart.

Your donation not only provides a learning experience for today but a life long memory and teachable moments that can only happen with the generosity of people like you. Thank you again for supporting this project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yaccarino

  • Classroom Supplies

    Funded Oct 23, 2015

Thank you so very much for your generous contributions. The mechanical pencils and chart paper have helped my students use more class time for learning! When we first received the supplies, the students were so happy and jumped right in to help me unpack. We began using the mechanical pencils and chart paper daily. In the upcoming weeks we will be reading a new novel, "Wonder". We will need the chart paper to help us organize the background knowledge, characters, and plot throughout the book. The mechanical pencils are used daily to reduce time spent on sharpening pencils. As the year progresses, I am positive that there will be other educational uses for the supplies! Again, thank you for your contribution, my students will greatly benefit from these materials throughout the school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yaccarino

My students are typical middle school students with exceptional ways of learning! They love to learn and enjoy hands on activities and making things that demonstrate their understanding of concepts. The students are hard workers that have to use more energy to understand what most of their peers can easily understand and process. My students receive occupational therapy, speech therapy, and/or counseling services to help them learn in a school setting. The district I work in is in an area that was hit hard when many casinos shut down. The majority of the students in the district receive free or reduced priced lunch due to economical hardship.
