Help Us Find Our Way in the World
Funded Jul 6, 2023I cannot thank you enough for your generous contributions. They have not only helped students but teachers as well.
The Little Spot Books have been added to my library and can be checked out by teachers to use in their classrooms. All the sensory items have been tagged, cataloged, and checked out as well. As for the sensory floor tiles, I am not sure who likes them more. The student of the teachers???
Your generosity just solidifies what I tell my students on a daily basis; that everyone loves them and wants to see them succeed. I hope you know the impact you have made on my class as well as our entire school. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!”

This classroom project was brought to life by General Motors and 2 other donors.Help Us Find Our Peaceful Spot!
Funded Oct 6, 2022I can't thank you enough for contributing to our classroom. My students have come so far with their social-emotional learning. Many of the building items we received have been used to help kids calm down and distract from the fear and anxiety they can be feeling. It allows for a creative outlet and a sense of accomplishment.
When all of the packages showed up, we put all the boxes in the middle of the carpet and the kids got to unpack it all. They were so amazing by the items we got. We talked about how amazing and loving the world can be. That people who didn't even know them loved and believed in them enough to send items to help them.
We have been so fortunate with the donation from this site. I hope to do a few more to help obtain the same types of resources for our school. Many kids in our general education setting aren't identified in time. My hope is to help provide them with the same advantages in the areas of social/emotional, self-regulation, and social skills that my students receive. I hope we can continue to count on you.
Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity!”

Do You See What I See?
Funded Jul 26, 2017First of all, I would like to thank you for your generous donation to my visually impaired student who received an iPad with spectacular apps and a Bluetooth keyboard. These devices are crucial to my vision students in this era that focus so much on the use of technology for school work.
The iPad is an excellent tool that has powerful functions for the blind and low vision students. One of the functions is voice over; this is a screen reader that allows the student, to navigate with physical gestures or commands, to know where and what is in the screen. For the person that cannot see, voice over describes everything happening on the screen. Apps such as Read2Go, allows the blind student to access text books, novels, and any kind of books to study or to read just for leisure. One very helpful function in the iPad is the Zoom function that this particular low vision student uses in combination with voice over to be able to use her residual vision. One app that we were able to purchase with your donation was the KNFB Reader; this is a mobile app that reads print aloud. It's easy to use because the student takes a photo and the app reads the text aloud or publishes it in Braille with a refreshable display. It's fast and accurate.
This type of technology is used at school in most classes because it allows the student to access the information almost at the same time that the regular students do. It also fosters self-reliance and sense of responsibility in the student. Having the iPad paired with a refreshabraille display (a braille display is an electro-mechanical device for displaying braille characters, usually by means of round-tipped pins raised through holes in a flat surface) permit my student to input braille symbols to create documents, complete tasks, and take tests while the teacher is able to see everything in the iPad screen.
Since I introduced my visually impaired students to this technology, I have seen how much they love to interact with the devices and apps. They feel that they can be part of the class and enable them to enjoy reading, playing games and have fun times with peers and family.
Even though there are many apps that are accessible for the blind and low vision students, there are a lot that they cannot access at all. Never the less, we, teachers of the visually impaired are very thankful for the accessibility that our student have through this wonderful technology.
Again, I want to thank you all for the opportunity of promoting success in the life of a student that needed your support.
Sincerely,

Seating for Special Kids
Funded Apr 6, 2017We want to start out by thanking you so much for your generous contribution. My students were so excited the day the delivery was made to our school. Receiving the boxes was actually a great lesson in itself. They learned how to open items without cutting into them.
We were lucky enough to have received all of this alternative seating at the end of the school year last year. The wobbly stools came in very handy for end of the year testing. Students took them to testing rooms with them and they seemed to really help with focus. The bean bags have been amazing as well. Students have the option to sit in them while doing their work and they help provide choices for my students. This in turn helps them feel like they are more in control of what they are doing. The cushions we purchased are used everyday for independent reading. The sense of not being stuck at a desk has done wonders for my students focus and quality of work.
Each year students will benefit from your donation. They recognize the difference you have made in their classroom and their lives. We talked about how people who didn't even know us, gave money to help our classroom. You could see the connection that was made in knowing that "people out there care about us in here," to quote a student.
Many thanks!”
With gratitude,
