Fetal Pig Dissection

Funded Dec 22, 2015

Dear Donor's,

Words cannot describe the the impact that your funding has had on the students for my Anatomy & Physiology class. Through the fetal pigs that were purchased through your donations we were able to discover the organization of the organs, organ systems and their proximity and relationship to one another. The dissection of these fetal pigs students were able to become experts on a specific organ system and its' functions and teach others about it.

The students had a number of different reactions including disgust and nausea. However, these initial reactions soon dissipated as they began their dissections. As the dissections progressed so did their questions about the way our body works. They were able to make the larger connections as to how our body regulates and maintains homeostasis. Ultimately it led to students seeing what happens on a macroscopic level how the loss of homeostasis leads to disease and can be a cause of death if homeostasis cannot be obtained again.

This was a culminating for students in Anatomy & Physiology class. It helped them tie what they had learned in the first half of the school year to the second. Most of the students that took the class are pursuing careers in health. As such this was a great way to introduce them into some aspects of college level Human Anatomy & Physiology. They also developing respect for the materials they worked with and reinforced working in groups and learning from each other.

Some of them may continue forward pursuing their careers in the Health Sciences. They have you to thank for that.”

With gratitude,

Mr. Santos
