Support Equity Academy!
Funded Oct 31, 2023My students have been using the materials every day in my room. They spend time reading books and playing make believe house on the couch/rug. They use the expandable balls for deep breathing exercises. They use the sensory bins to explore, play and use their imaginations.
My students were over the moon excited when they stepped into my room and saw the materials for the first time. This is a space for social emotional support and play. I love seeing them learn and grow every day. My students look forward to spending time in here. I love seeing them feel comfortable, relaxed and having fun. They are continuing to grow socially and emotionally as they play together. We will continue to use these items for social emotional development this year and into the future.”

Funded Dec 2, 2015We requested materials to use during collaborative play in my first grade classroom. They are using these materials to explore their interests and develop their social skills. Collaborative play is extremely important in helping students learn how to effectively communicate and interact with one another. They are able to have meaningful conversations and learn how to compromise and work with one another. They have used the dishes and money to create their own play restaurant. They use the easel to act as teachers and the doctors equipment to act as if they are running a doctor's office.
My students were overjoyed to see the new materials for collaborative play time. If you asked them what their favorite time during the school day is they would most likely say collaborative play. They all wanted to be the first ones to use the materials. However, we found this was another opportunity to teach them about taking turns and working collaboratively.
I would love for my students to leave the first grade understanding the importance of listening to one another and working collaboratively with their peers. In life they will have to learn how to communicate effectively. Not only will these materials help them work together, it will also help them sharpen their communication skills. In order to get them college and career ready they must be able to work well with others. Every job they will ever come across will require them to work with others. These materials will help them to do so. I am so grateful for your help.”
