I work in an inner-city school, where the majority of students are eligible for free and reduced price lunch. My school is ethnically diverse and students come from all over the world. My students are hard-workers. Some of my students don't know that anything else exists outside of school or where they live. I am hoping to create opportunities for them to explore the world around them and help them to find themselves. Our class sizes are large and there is a need for additional funding. Many teachers have classes over 30 students. One of my peers has as many as 36 in one room! Our students need educational opportunities to prepare them for the 21st century, which include critical thinking skills, collaboration, creativity and problem-solving skills. Our students come from tough neighborhoods, which is why it is important for them to have the best educational experience possible to succeed.
