Bridging The Gap- A STEM Project For Special Students
Funded Mar 18, 2017Thank you so much for your generosity, and inspiring my students to get involved in the STEM world. It has been amazing these last couple of months to watch this group of students with autism really engage in the STEM center you funded.
The create-a-chain reaction STEM kit, survive the quake engineering kit, and mechanical engineering kit gave students the hands-on exposure they needed to explore these challenging concepts. Shapes, patterns, and geo-boards have monumentally improved their visual performance skills. Motion tubes, and the magnetic wonder window have open my students' eyes to physics. Counting cubes and math games also helped my students to enjoy their learning, and actually succeed with addition, subtraction, and fractions. The use of scientific and mathematic language has also increased in the classroom.
We needed a STEM center. This center has functioned as part of their daily academics during an ABA teaching rotation. Students have improved in communication skills, sensory regulation, fine motor skills, as well as the traditional learning that takes place through a STEM center. These magnificent children learn in a unique way and they needed time to experience things in a way that is meaningful to them- you helped them to do just that. They are capable of great things and there is no doubt in my mind that they have reaped the benefits from more science and math.”

Healthy Snacks for Healthy Minds
Funded Oct 5, 2015An amazing six months have passed since you all made such generous donations to my classroom. My students have grown academically, socially, and physically thanks to your help. The excitement on their faces when we opened all of the packages was breathtaking. Their curious little faces wanted to try all of these different food items most of them have never even seen before.
Since then, the students have learned about different food groups (health and science), how to make different healthy snacks (following multiple step directions), portion control (mathematics and measurement), and sharing and requesting appropriately (social skills).
As we move into the last couple of months of the school year, we will be making a recipe book with the different salads we have made and stored in our beautiful refrigerator. Hopefully the students will take this experience and continue to try new, healthy foods with less fear. I have been able to be a better teacher to my students, because of the support you provided to my classroom. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for caring about the students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Andrea
