Student Documentary Films - Equipment Needed!

Funded Dec 23, 2015

Thanks to you my students in Documentary Film have the high end computer they need to upload, edit, and render their finished documentaries. Thanks to the external DVD drive they also have the option to either upload their finished films to a variety of websites or burn them onto DVDs to share with their parents and friends.

Over the last two months some of my students have finished short documentary films on the following topics: developing identity in a bi-racial family, recidivism rates for California State Penitentiaries, the changing face of California's environment during the current drought, the presidential primaries, the effect of Jujitsu and other martial arts on student discipline, treatment of animals in non-kill shelters, and gentrification in the East Bay. There are more films still in progress and a new round of students have enrolled in the class. Some of the newest proposals include: APD and how they interface with the community, bullying in Alameda, gender identity at Encinal, growing up in a single parent household, growing up in subsidized housing, living through divorce, social media and its affects on adolescents, and more.

With your incredibly generous donation, my students now have the ability to finish their films and express their thoughts and concerns to the larger community here at Encinal. Some students have been so moved by their experiences, experiences that would not be possible without the equipment, they have told me that they wish to be film makers and will pursue this field in college.

Thank you for your assistance and for giving my students such an awesome opportunity!”

With gratitude,

Mr. Ogdie
