Reading Rules!
Funded May 3, 2011Thank you so much for providing these reading resources, books on tape, teacher guides, and student guides to my classroom. I received the materials at the beginning of this school year and have used them often ever since. The teacher guides and student guides have helped me to provide better reading instruction to build my student comprehension through novels that are interesting and pertain to student life. The books on tape have been great for differentiation and making sure all students can learn and can enjoy novels together. The other materials have also helped my students to develop reading skills. I thank you again for helping my class to become better readers. We appreciate your help. ”

This classroom project was brought to life by Townsend Press and 2 other donors.Kentucky is Our State
Funded Mar 12, 2011Thank you for your donations to our Kentucky is Our State project. This project provided a variety of reading activities to practice reading skills. In our town reading is often seen as unneccesary. Many of our students are low and reluctant readers. Class time is spent teaching and reviewing basic skills. The materials your donations provided are leveled and allow all my students to practice skills in an exciting way. The materials provide challenging reading and skills practice for my higher students and lower passages and skills review activities for my lower students. These materials have helped my students to improve their reading levels and to enjoy reading activities. We appreciate your willingness to help our class. Thank you. ”

We Need to Play Too.
Funded Mar 18, 2011Thank you for donating to our project We Need to Play Too. Unfortunaltey many times in school, recess is forgotten about or ignored. I feel that recess is an important part of the day and helps students in many ways. First of all with our country's problems with obesity it is important that our children are spending time daily in active play. Secondly by having a time to get up and play, classroom disruptions are lessened and attention is better held in the regular subjects.
Since our school does not have a playground my 3rd and 4th grade students were having trouble keeping busy without getting into trouble during recess. The materials that your donation bought stopped that problem. With the basketballs, playground balls, and word fun beach balls my students are always happy at recess now.
The word fun balls that your donation purchased also helps my students practice phonics and vocabulary skills. Also included in this project was a set of solar system vests. We took these outside the other day and simulated how things move in the solar system. My students truly enjoyed it and it helped them remember the two ways that planets move.
We appreciate your donation and the supplies it allowed us to gain. Thanks again. ”

Super Science Symphony
Funded Jan 12, 2011Thanks you so much for your donations that allowed my class to get the super science kits from Lakeshore. These kits contain many great materials and have helped make science real to my students. My students were able to use a variety of tools to measure weather, build ramps to study motion, and put together simple machines and electrical circuits to study electricity and machines. Because of these materials my students gained a deeper understanding of these topics. I look forward to using these materials in the future and thank you for your help in obtaining them. ”

Mastering Math
Funded Oct 29, 2010Your donations that allowed my class to obtain math centers and review activities are truly appreciated. Since I teach a combined class, there are many times that my students must work alone while I work with the opposite grade or where the older students are finished and the younger students are still working. In the past reading was the only thing the students had to do during this time.
While reading is a great thing, the students were becoming bored with it. The math centers and activities you provided for our class gave my students another activity to do when they are finished with their work and waiting for the other students. The activities are also great during our intervention group where we do extra practice with the lower students and advanced activities with the advanced students.
I truly appreciate your donations as do the students in my class. ”

Beat the Calculator: Math Facts
Funded Nov 13, 2009Thank you for donating the whiteboards, markers, and erasers to our classroom. These have been very helpful to my students. My students use the boards daily to do math problems, correct sentences, and do other daily work. The boards allow this practice to be done in an interesting way in which the children enjoy. The boards also allow a quick response system so that I can check understanding during a lesson. This allows me to make sure all students are understanding content. The boards and other materials have been a wonderful new resource to our classroom. Thank you! ”

Writing Is Real!
Funded Jun 9, 2009Thank you for donating the sentence building and grammar centers for our classroom. They have been helpful in educating students. Many of my students come into the classroom with little knowledge of how to write and these centers have helped them to develop their skills.
The students enjoy working with the hands-on materials from these center. Being able to physically manipulate the sentences and grammar activities helps the students to remember the lessons later and use them in their school work.
Our school does an intervention class daily and these centers have been helpful in these sessions as well. They allow for individual and group work in a fun way. Thank you for helping our students grow. ”

Nonfiction Rules!
Funded May 21, 2009Thank you all for sponsoring the Nonfiction Rules project for my class. The leveled nonfiction readers have been very useful in my classroom. This year I have 24 students in both 4th and 5th grade at a variety of levels. The nonfiction book sets you have donated allow my students to learn about text features and how to read nonfiction books at their own level while still reading the same book as their classmates.
These books have also helped my students learn about science at their own pace. I have several students who read at a very low levels and some who read very high. These books allow all of my students to learn and be successful.
My students have truly enjoyed reading about Amazing Plants and Animals in these readers and are excited about reading the other books as well. Thank you for being so generous. ”
