  • Student Created Robotics

    Funded Jul 25, 2019

Thank you for empowering my students by providing real-life hands-on skills with robotics to allow us to enhance my lesson plans to demonstrate the power of coding with instant feedback and most importantly in a fun and challenging way. We have been using Code.org, MIT’s Scratch as well as Edblocks and Edscratch to program, now, thanks to your kind contribution the programing theory learned by the students, such in these sample Scratch programs, can be taken to the next level by using their coding and problem solving skills with actual robots that they can customize and keep in their classroom, since we will have enough for every working group.

I know that my students will be thrilled to be in the class since we have a proven and up-to-date Introduction to Computer Science curriculum, the support of our administration and thanks to you and donor’s choose a hands on approach to bring our students’ coding skills to real life. I cannot wait to show you what our student will do with the robots, thank you so very much.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 5 other donors.
The kids have taken very well to Scratch programming. The ECS and AP CSP CS4ALL computer science curriculum have been very effective in giving students the foundations and confidence to create their own original coding sequences and programs. We will be able to implement PBL lessons where the student-generated ideas become computer algorithms, then their programming skills will be fine-tuned on Scratch, tested virtually by iteration and immediate feedback, then finally these coding ideas will be programmed on actual R2-D2 and mBots. We plan to have the coding stored on the students accounts and the same bots will be used by all my four classes to see how well the bots respond to the student programs. We foresee that the bots may not exactly behaved as hypothesized and open up new venues of creativity as the students engage with actual robots. These programmable robots will bridge the gap between virtual and actual programming for my students as their original programs and algorithms come to life in the school hallways. The opportunities for students to apply their inspiration and applications on engineering, math, logic and practical problem-solving skills will be enhanced as the entire school realize how cool is to learn computer science, where you can apply your math, English and any other core course skill you learned or are learning.
