  • There Are Never Enough Recorders

    I know it has been a while, but once again I wanted to thank you for your donation from 2022. Your donation has changed our lives. I was able to receive high-quality Yamaha recorders, which I donated to my students, a portion of which are; shelter residents, recent refugees, and many more in need of financial assistance - the scope of which is simply hard to describe.

    The joy on children's faces, the excitement to receive something from school, something that they can take home and practice simple melodies was overwhelming.

    You can not fathom the magnitude of your gesture. Deeply touched by your gesture.”

  • Recorder Flutes for Remote Classes

    It has been a very difficult year with Covid restrictions in the classrooms, but I am happy to let you know that all recorders were utilized both in classroom and remote instructions! Your support counts. It is very difficult to teach music these days. With the use of masks, social distancing, and classroom restrictions, but let me tell you how much joy those recorders brought. Students have been recording their compositions on Google Classroom, it has been so much fun!!!! Thank you from all the children and the admin team in our school!! I am inspired by your good will and support, and will try to find more funding opportunities.”

    This classroom project was brought to life by Con Edison and 15 other donors.
All of my students come from low to lower middle class income families in the extremely diverse community of Queens Village, NY. There are over 1,200 children in my school, in grades PK-5 with large classroom sizes reaching 35 children per class. They are extremely curious, intelligent, multilingual children with a great grasp of the environment and their surroundings. They crave knowledge, and are inspired by new things. They take any little thing with great appreciation and are eager to work hard in my music class. This is a new music program, and we have very little to go by. The new principal has been wonderful and supportive. I am able to do General Music classes, as well as Chorus. I would love to have some basic essentials, and with time, introduce Orff instruments, and perhaps even form a small string ensemble. I am willing to put my sweat and tears into helping these children. Music is important. Please help us bring it to these children.
