Back to Business!
Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you so much for your donations. The notebooks were put to use right away. Each student was able to receive a Reading notebook, Writing notebook, Math notebook and a Homework notebook.
The students have started using their Writing notebooks to start planning and writing their stories. The math notebooks are used daily to practice our math skills of addition and subtraction facts using a variety of strategies. Without these notebook, students would definitely have a difficult time tracking their work or not having a consistent place to look for information from previous lessons.
The name tags were used for the start of the year, as we all learned each other's names. The name tags also came in handy to label students' items and personal space around the room.”

Funded Nov 30, 2021Thank you so much for your donations. Your donations helped purchase books that students can read independently. The students are excited to have a variety of books to choose from. I can see how eager they are to have reading time and how engaged they are when reading.
These books are also used to help students who need more practice with reading sight words and using decoding skills to figure out tricky words. I can see that when students are reading these books, it is helping them build confidence and raise their self-esteem as well. Thank you again!!”

Funded Jun 29, 2020We started school about two weeks ago and the students have been using the supplies on a daily basis. When the students arrived, I created a basket with each student's supplies inside (notebooks, folder, scissors, glue, crayons, pencils, etc.). The students were pleasantly surprised and it allowed for a smooth transition to start our work in third grade. We have been using the notebooks as a Math notebook, which students can write down and practice new strategies learned. They also recently used the index cards, scissors and glue to help them with a science experiment. Many of the students were worried because they expressed how their parents wouldn't be able to go out and buy school supplies this year. These supplies held ease their worries and they have been handling each of their supplies with care. They especially enjoy the pencil sharpeners, which they use often.
Thank you again for your donations. The students and I are greatly appreciative of your kind gesture.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 2 other donors.Math Mania
Funded Sep 2, 2015I wanted to take this time to thank you for donating to my project. The school year has started and we started using these materials right away. The students were excited to see the new materials that have arrived. Many students were enthusiastic to learn about how these materials will be used, such as the clock to help us with elapsed time. The materials are already in the students' hands and being used daily.
Most of the materials have been placed in the math center in our classroom. The students get to use the dice and plastic covers when playing math games. We have also been able to play games as a whole class, since the dice are larger than the normal ones that we are used to. The plastic covers allow the students to reuse game boards and sheets by writing on them with the wipe-off markers that we received. The students were particularly excited about the math word wall cards. Before these cards, I would write the math vocabulary words on sentence strips and attempt to make pictures to go along with each word; please note, I am not the best artist. Now the students have the vocabulary words, definition and a clear picture for each word. These words are placed on our math word wall, which students have access to when doing their math work.
I have noticed that the students get excited and are very engaged when it's Friday, which is the day that we usually do math centers and play math games. The students can't wait to get their hands on these materials. It gives me great joy to see that as the students are having fun, they are also learning important math concepts and strategies. So once again, thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to donate to this project.”

Creating a New Generation of Writers
Funded Nov 29, 2014I wanted to thank you for your generous donation to my project. My students will finally be able to create their own writing notebooks in which they can write personal narratives, persuasive essays and create their own fairytales. The students were excited to know that we no longer had to rely on loose pieces of paper, which get lost easily, for writing their stories. The students were also excited to know that we have a new pencil sharpener, which students will be taking turns becoming the pencil sharpener monitor.
The students decorated their notebooks with words and pictures that were meaningful to them. They also wrote their initials on the notebooks to make it easily recognizable. The students have been eager to have the job as a pencil sharpener as well. I am as excited as the students are to have these resources in our classroom as it will add more organization to the routines that we already have in place and make it easier to locate student work.
Thank you once again for donating to my project and making our classroom filled with writers, once again eager to write!”

"Words Are the Voice to the Heart"
Funded Sep 14, 2014I wanted to thank you again for your support for donating to my project on Donors Choose. My students have been excited and eager to use the products that I requested through my project. The dry-erase markers were a hit from the start. The students were happy to see that we have new markers that work and that they don't have to stop what they were working on because their dry-erase marker no longer worked. The students have been using the markers to play math games, show their work and their thinking when solving word problems as well as using them during Word Study centers. The markers have also been a great tool to use for modeling strategies on the wipe-off board to reinforce material that as been taught but not yet mastered.
Another product that the students have also enjoyed using are the plastic covers. This has been a great resource to use when the students are playing word study games. The game, which is usually printed on a worksheet, is placed inside the plastic cover and it has been able to maintain it's shelf life much longer than it would have had it not been in that protective gear. The vibrant colors are also helpful for students to identify each game and where it should be placed at the end of our working time.
However, the best product that the students have been raving about and eager to see are the stamps. I usually stamp their work as recognition and a positive note that their classwork or homework has been completed and is correct. I've noticed that my students will not put their classwork material away until they have gotten a stamp from me; which lets me know that they are eager to do their work the best that they can just to get a recognition by a stamp on their paper. The stamps are great because of the variety of sayings that come with it such as: Great Job! Terrific! and Awesome!
Your donations have truly helped to create the positive, risk-free and engaging learning environment that I had hoped to create in my classroom. Once again thank you for your donation from the students and from myself!”

The Road to English
Funded Dec 28, 2009I wanted to thank you so much for the books on CD. The students have been enjoying listening to stories in the classroom. They have a lot of books to choose from to listen to in the Listening Center, versus only the 5 books I had before. Some of the books range from learning the alphabet to their favorite character Curious George, so they never get tired of listening to this books over and over.
The students have also had the opportunity to take these books on CD home. This helps enhance their literacy skills as well as give them a chance to listen to a book read at home, in case their parents do not speak English or do not have any books at home to read to them. The parents have also expressed how much they enjoy listening to the books with their child and how excited their child gets when they have a chance to bring a book home. I am glad and excited that you made all of this possible through your donation to this project.
Thank you so much for your consideration in donating to this project. Please know that you have made a positive difference in these students' lives and hopefully this will bring about a long love for reading!”

Ms. Nunez
PuzzleMania
Funded Dec 15, 2009I wanted to thank you so much for your donations towards this project. The students have been so excited in using the puzzles. The puzzles have helped the students in learning the letters of the alphabet and sequencing of the letters. The puzzles have also helped several students work on their gross motor skills and thinking critically to figure out how the pieces go together.
These puzzles will also go into great use in the years to come with future students, so it helps to know that they can be used over and over again.
Thank you once again!”

Wipe-Away Fun!
Funded Apr 8, 2009I would like to thank you very much for funding my project. The students will be very excited to be able to use the wipe-off markers and erasers in their everyday classroom use. They will be extremely excited to learn that we can now use materials in the classroom that we haven't been able to use because we did not have these materials in place. The wipe-off markers will also give students an opportunity to express themselves on wipe-off boards, which we already have in the class. The students will also be able to feel that they can take more risks by using the wipe-off markers on a board and being able to quickly change their responses or work using the erasers.
Once again, thank you so much for all of your help in getting these supplies into the hands of the students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Nunez
