  • Fueling Success

    Funded Apr 3, 2025

Thank you for enabling my students to put compassion in action and providing them with the needed materials for their testing buddies.

The students applied coloring, cutting and cooperation when doing their buddy tags. They had to be mindful of being quality producers so that they are giving a quality product to their buddies.

The first buddy tag they created were for erasers. The quality was poor and the receiver wouldn't be able to read the words or the name of the sender. Using that as a lesson, I demonstrated what a quality producer would create and the cookie tags turned out great.

The 5th grade buddies were grateful for receiving them. Some of them keep the encouragement tags in their testing bag.

The donations provided my students with the opportunity to build their community up.”

  • Classroom Pride

    Funded Mar 10, 2025

Thank you so much for your donation. This donation will teach students about taking pride in their classroom and providing a life skill for them.

Having a clean class demonstrates being safe, responsible, and respectful. Cleaning prevents falls or slips on pencils or papers. Responsibility is taking care of the place that they learn. Respectful is caring for the things that have been provided.

Above all, the class will be working together. Bringing to life the `olelo no`eau: ʻAʻohe hana nui ke alu ʻia - No task is too big when done together all. We work together to clean our whole class. This shows our pride and ability to work as a whole.”

  • Building a Strong Foundation of Emergent Readers, Writers and Mathmaticians

    Funded Oct 14, 2024

The supplies donated to our classroom has provided various opportunities for my struggling readers to practice encoding and decoding in guided reading.

My students were thrilled to be able to have their own books to write CVC words in. The CVC wipe off cards enabled my students to apply their knowledge of sounds to words that matched the picture.

The flash cards also support the whole class to practice their addition facts and sight words. We play around the world with the flash cards and the students absolutely love it!”

  • Sphero Savy

    Funded Feb 16, 2024

This was my first year teaching first grade. I didn't know much about Spheroes but knew that my kiddos would learn quickly. I dabbled with it a little before introducing it to my students. I introduced it on a Wednesday so I could teach science and engineering. It was the best choice I ever made.

The engagement was through the roof. Collaboration and problem solving came naturally and students learned quickly! By the third day, students needed to connect, aim and get to the activity. Their first challenge was to make their Sphero go in a circle. Next the Sphero needed to follow a path by drawing. Students are still working on that.

Thank you so much for the donation. I am using an hour of code this summer with the Spheroes and my students are stoked!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kaopuiki

  • Helping Students to Soar

    Funded Nov 18, 2023

Thank you for funding the various materials for my classroom. The tools have enabled my students to have a tactile approach to learning. It has also increased engagement in math. The size and color captures their eyes; as well as the ability for the objects to be manipulated.

The tools that are a part of the everyday math curriculum are the the magnetic 10-frame and number bond. Students have struggled with the part and whole concept. Being able to physically move the pieces or write on the 10-frame has helped them not only see it clearly but it has also allowed them to physically move pieces which helps with memory.

It would have taken me a while to save and then purchase these items. Prior to ordering the materials, I attended the NCTM and learned about the tools. At that point, they were wish list items. Thank you for making my wishes come true and helping my students "see" math.”

  • Moving Forward

    Funded Oct 29, 2022

I appreciate the products that you gifted to my students. The products provided helped encourage positive behavior and promote self-reflection. In a span of 3-4 months, student behavior changed and absences decreased with key students. The incentives that you helped fund were used to help create a safe space and earned for good choices that students made.

The tools and snacks were used as part of a progress chart tied with incentives. I offered the hot chips, play dough and fidget tools as points based incentives. The oil and water tubes were used in the calming corner. The journals are also a big part of of my SEL roll out.

One of the biggest success stories is student A. Student A hid under the desk and refused to listen. I built a relationship and used a progress tracking chart with him. He would accrue a specific amount of points that he could spend on something of his liking. He would work hard to earn hot chips or a fidget tool. In the present, he doesn't hide under his desk and keeps his space clean. I am greatly appreciative of your donations.”

  • School Day Prepper

    Funded Nov 26, 2020

Thank you for your gracious donation. Your money funded individual student bags and an a speaker for students to hear me clearly. The students have made use of the bag because I am able to provide supplies for each student. The microphone helps to project sound when I am teaching in class students so that they can hear me my voice versus my muffled voice.

The students and families were grateful. Contrary to what we planned for in August, COVID has kept at distance learning for majority of the year. The original intent for the bags and speaker was to support safety in the classroom. Because we were distance learning the majority of the year and just recently returned, I decided to use the bags to distribute materials for the students who were face to face AND to distribute to those that returned to Distance Learning. When the Distance Learning families arrived they noticed the pouches and personalized touch of a name tag. they were extremely appreciative and surprised at what their child received. To the students that returned for face to face, they were content that they had pouch to hold their belongings.

Some students have returned to campus but due to our new COVID cases at our school, my class is back temporarily back to full distance learning. Due to the uncertainty of school we are taking each day one day at a time taking safety measures to remain healthy.”

  • VersaTiles Makes Learning Fun

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

Aloha! I received the VersaTiles and had planned to use it after spring break. To our dismay, the Virus hit and changed the course of the year. I was unable to use the Versatiles in our classroom.

I really wish I had more time. My students were excited when I introduced the Versatiles. They couldn't wait to get started. My plan was to use the tiles as a workstation during small group time. It brought a twist to reading. The best thing about it is that it was completely independent AND they were able to get instant feedback.

Even though I wasn't able to utilize the Versatiles, I will definitely include it next school year. I will go through the routine of using it during small group time.

I am extremely grateful for your willingness to support my students. Your gift will go a long way. It supports, literacy, independence, and critical thinking. I really wish my students were able to write the thank you's but have accepted the changing times that we are in. Thank you once again!”

  • Creative Genius

    Funded Oct 13, 2015

Aloha from H-201, a fifth grade class, at Leihoku Elementary, in Waianae! Thank you Chevron for what you do for all students. We greatly appreciate your donation of Tinkering tools. We have incorporated some of our other tinker tools with the ones donated. Your donation has given my students a time of their own to think out problems and build solutions, to listen and talk, and to have fun. Overall, they LOVE IT!!

The tinkering tools are used every day. One memory I have is when I saw a group of girls stirring in the corner of class. They were collaborating and laughing. When I looked closer, they were playing with the Roominate, trying to put it together because they weren't sure how to start. Once they figured it out, they kept building, while enjoying their time. This showed me that they were thinking, learning and having fun, without even noticing it.

Through this process I see students problem solve, collaborate and think. In order to enhance their experience I would like to better organize and expand our makerspace. First, I would like to arrange our space with various sized containers to hold most of the items. All containers will be labeled and neatly arranged. Next, I will incorporate a daily challenge to push them to think a little more. Challenges would include recyclable items, crafty materials, or Legos. (I found out they enjoy Legos!) This is an opportune time to let them drive their thinking while enjoying the process of making and creating. I anticipate our space growing to impact more of the various talents that our students posses.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kaopuiki

My school is located on the leeward side of an island in the Pacific Ocean. The majority of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. They currently learn all core subjects but do not have art or music. My classes that I have this year are wanderers and workers. Academics is a struggle for some. The MakerSpace is a time where they can learn and have fun. Perfection or accuracy is not the key, it is creativity. Being creative can lead to building knowledge, learning through play!
