Ready To Read
Funded Dec 21, 2016Thank you so much for funding my project. I am really looking forward to returning to school and introducing my students to the leveled library.
They are all at a point where they can read independently with success but they need more materials. It is my goal to send them on to first grade as confident independent readers. Your support will help make this possible.”

Funded Oct 26, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for your generosity. At the end of every day, my students get to choose a creative play center to play in with their friends. Most of these areas include a building type activity. Prior to this week, I didn't have enough materials for all of the students to play in the areas where they wanted to play. For example, only two students could play with Lego's, Flexiblocks or Marble Run. Now I have more than doubled the amount of building activities and it has completely changed this important creative play time. We have only had the materials for a week but everyday the students ask me to look at the things they have created. I have seen amazing growth in their creativity and self-esteem in just a week.
It was a very special day when I told the students about the materials. My students had been participating in a "Thank O Rama" this month. Each day they wrote thank you notes to someone who has helped them. They were very touched that someone who didn't know them had bought toys for their classroom. One student said, "I think I'm going to cry." It was really sweet. Every time I showed them a new building activity, they would clap. It was very special.
My next step is to take pictures of the things that they build and add it to their digital portfolio on Class Dojo so their parents can see it. It will allow them to look back at what they have done in the past and inspire them to improve.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bradshaw

Funded Oct 30, 2015We are using The scholastic magazine on a weekly basis to learn something new. When the magazine was about apples, I brought in apple slices for the class to enrich their learning. The greatest aspect is that students get to take home the magazine and share the magazine with their parents. We had a particularly moving moment in November when we read a "let's Find Out' magazine called "Happy Veteran's Day, Mom". When we opened up to the second page, the title was "Our Mom Was in the Army". After I read the title, a shy student immediately raised his hand so I stopped reading to talk to him. He said, "My mom was in the Army and she even wore those clothes.". He was so proud and it was really touching. It lead to additional Veteran's Day activities. There is a large copy of the magazine which I allowed him to take home. His parents emailed me to tell me what a great experience this was for the whole family.
The students were really excited about getting to keep the magazine and take it home. A few students even asked if they had to give it back. The first one that I gave them was about apples. They loved all of the new vocabulary words that they learned to describe the parts of an apple.
I noticed that the students began to look forward to the "Find Out" days. It was full of highly engaged students and the fact that there were games and videos with the online version of the magazine made it very interactive.”
