  • Powering Up With Tech! Part 1

    Funded Aug 15, 2018

What a way to end the summer and start the new school year! Thank you all SO much for your generosity and contributions to education. This is the perfect time for this project to be funded as my students will be able to begin the year using tools on the tablets right away. My students are usually the last to receive the laptop cart (if the day hasn't ended already) so I know they will be super excited that they will have equal opportunity to use technology this year. Again, so excited and can't wait to show how we've used these!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Pimentel

  • Mindful Musings

    Funded Apr 6, 2017

Thank you all for your generous donations! It means a lot that the project was able to get funded so quickly. It shows the importance and significance that you feel that mental health education has on our future generations. I can't wait to share the news with my students who have been anticipating having their own soft mat to lie on and escape from all the distractions in their world. Your help is truly is appreciated and I can't wait to share the growth of my students and success of this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Pimentel

Statistics show that children living in low-income high poverty areas are more likely to experience high trauma situations. This is the case for many of my students, resulting in impulsive, aggressive, and other negative types of behavior. My students have difficulty coping, managing their emotions, and problem solving when put in situations that cause them stress, frustration, or anxiety. Unfortunately, many schools, including mine, aren't well equipped with mental health programs that address these issues. But here at my school, we are trying to change this so that every student has the skills they need to become more successful now and for their futures. The yoga mats, metronome, and other supplies will support the program being implemented into the school day that is based around mindfulness. These materials will help build a more relaxing space where students can "reset" their minds, learning how to focus on breathing, how to make peace with their thoughts, how to be more aware, and more. With these materials, the program will help reduce the amount of negative behaviors and distractions from learning so that my students can better focus on their education to become the strongest champions I know they are.
