  • The Culinary and Literacy Connection

    Funded Aug 8, 2024

Thank you for The generous gift that you have given to my students. My students benefit from seeing more representation in the Culinary field that they have an interest in. By purchasing these books set, you will have provided that for them. They will get a chance to see an individual that has shared history with some of their own experiences and how they overcame obstacles to achieve success. This is an important and powerful gift once again thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McHenry-Hutto

  • Reading Scholars Unite

    Funded Oct 6, 2015

Thank you for the generous gift. The scholastic scope articles have provided a large amount of enrichment materials for my students to continue to develop their comprehension and build their love of reading.

My students have developed a better understanding of text structure and its impact on how a message is conveyed. They have examples to look at that are rich sources of information and can see the varying text structures that are present. They also have learned more about central idea versus a topic. At the beginning of the year, I had a student come up to me and ask what is central idea? It doesn't make any sense. Although they understood what main idea was, they couldn't pin point what the central idea of the text was. Through the articles from the Scope magazines that you have provided, they have had opportunities to develop their knowledge and practice their skills. That same student that didn't understand central idea before has no problems now identifying it.

Once again thank you for your generous gift, your help has made a difference in developing understanding, and that is priceless.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McHenry-Hutto

I have a wonderful heterogeneous group of sixth graders in a small town. They greet each day ready to learn with smiles on their faces. They are excited to learn about new places and to try out and learn new skills. I am truly thrilled with the effort and excitement that they bring to their learning. When assigned a task they will sit down and think about it, work collaboratively to solve it, and check in with each others learning. Not only that, they are kind and patient with each other. Supportive to everyone, being respectful of the learning difficulties that some have. This patience is evident in their everyday interaction. Being in elementary they carry this down to the younger grades as well, modeling what the expectation is for them. What a great bunch of students!
