All students come to school to learn. Students on the autism spectrum are no different. They want to learn just like their peers. They also want to learn in an environment that is clean, fun and safe. My classroom utilizes the Structured TEACCH method. Students work at individual workstations focusing on their IEP goals. For the past 17 years my students have been using the same metal bookcases. They are rusted and falling apart. I have a great husband who has helped repair many of them over the years, but it isn't enough. I would like new bookcases for my students because they deserve to come to school and work in an inviting environment. They should not have to worry about ripping their shirts or pants on their bookcase (as has happened before)! I hope this new furniture will enhance the children's learning experience!
