Engaging Non-fiction for 21st Century Learners!
Funded Sep 14, 2015Your donations have not only provided more choice and engaging materials within my classroom but they have helped expand the minds of some the brightest thinkers in my school. Because of you, I was able to get relevant and interesting stories into the hands of my students and their selections will be something that they take with them for years to come. I am so very lucky to have such wonderful supporters in my corner. I wanted to share with you a few accounts from the students, I hope you can enjoy their words as much as I do.
Thank you again-- Brian Hodge
Thank you for donating the non fiction books to our classroom. Everybody thinks they are really good and well worth the money. We have all been reading them and we all think they are some of the best books we have ever read. They also taught our classroom that reading non fiction books isn't something you have to. It can be something you want to do. I read the book Outcasts United by Warren St. John. It was one of the best books I have read this school year. I'm looking forward to reading more books like it too. Some reasons why this was a good book was, for one it had a good plot. I liked how Coach Luma didn't care about money she just cared about making the kids happy. Even though there team didn't win the championship or anything they still were happy and kept trying hard. Another reason why I liked this book is because I liked how I got to see other lifestyles of people around the world. It showed me that I'm really lucky and that I should be thankful for all the things that I have. Even though the soccer team's faced some hardships they still persevered through their problems and were still happy. The major lesson I learned from this book was you might not always when the championship or first place, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't have fun. In conclusion thank you for getting our class a bunch of new books and even though I only read one of them so far. I'm looking forward to reading more of them soon.
I just want to thank you for allowing me to read the wonderful book, When I Was A Soldier. It transferred me to a whole different world I had never heard of, a world where things are much different than ours. Being able to experience and see the true story through the author's eyes is something not many kids get to do, and I am proud that I can say I did. Looking back, I am still astounded with the information provided within the book that I will carry with me for quite a long time. Fiction stories are one thing, but a memoir is something that will really effect me and I thank you for enabling that. With an overwhelming amount of things surrounding me each day, I love to sit down and enjoy a book and I enjoy it even more when it is a good book, such as When I Was A Soldier. Overall, I would just like to show my gratitude towards you for showing me a new and unseen world that I will remember and one I will continue to.
Thank you very much for the money you donated in order to get more books for our class. I really enjoyed reading the book entitled, I am Malala. I thought it was a very interesting and motivating story. It also gave me a look into life on the other side of the world, and helped me realize how different things are in the middle east. Many things mentioned in the book I never knew existed, or even thought could exist. I know they were real, but everything over there is so different from in America, it almost seems like fantasy. The book helped me open my eyes wider, and see the world more like it really is. I am very grateful to you for helping so much to educate us. We wouldn't know all that we do if we didn't have people like you helping us move forward in our education and our lives.
Thank you for donating your money to Mr.Hodge I read a very good book about Steve Jobs and I know that a lot of my fellow classmates have read non fiction books also. Reading this book about Steve Jobs helped me a lot in other classes not just lit/lang. I did a speech about Steve Jobs in Social Studies and I got a good grade on it. My main source of research was the Steve Jobs book. My teachers have been wanting me to read more nonfiction because all I read is fiction and this book was both interesting and factual. It also made me motivated to think outside the box and think differently trying to maybe invent something that changes the world just like Steve Jobs. So thank you so much for being so generous and helping me and my friends learn so many different things.”
