  • First Grade Creativity with Keva Planks

    Funded Oct 9, 2017

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My students were super excited to see that our Keva Planks had arrived! At first, my students did not know what to DO with the planks, but all it took was ONE student to think outside of the box and not just lay them flat. I began to see their thinking process as they began to really IMAGINE what they could make. STEM is all about students being able to create and think outside of the box without inhibitions. Your donation to my class is appreciated so much as it speaks to the vision that you have for my students, not only presently, but for their futures as well. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • iPad, Si!-Round Three

    Funded Sep 27, 2017

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom! In an age when technology is fast becoming the way to transmit information, student need to be prepared. Having another iPad allows my students to have access to a different form of learning. It encourages collaboration between the students and it also gives them some independence while allowing their learning to be interactive. My students were so excited to receive the iPad. Thank you for understanding that even at the First Grade level, technology is and will be important for them to know and utilize for many, many years to come. It truly is donors like you that make a difference to educators everywhere.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Legos: Learning and Logic

    Funded Oct 5, 2017

Thank you so much for the class set of Legos! It is amazing to see the creativity in just the short time that the students have been able to work with them. The whole class was so excited to be able to create without restrictions (construction worker/police officer/robber). The creations were limitless and each one has a story. It is so nice to see also the collaboration and the chatter among them that is productive play. Because we have STEM time on Fridays, the students are so excited to be able to build and share their creations. For me, it's important that they are sharing and talking about their ideas!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Fairy Tale Stories with a Twist of STEM

    Funded Sep 9, 2017

My students were so excited to receive the Fairy Tale Stem Kits! They could not wait to open them and begin problem solving. While no one has solved the questions yet, they do enjoy the challenge of beginning to figure out the process of answering the questions. The kits have become great small group activity centers where collaboration is the key. We began with Little Red Riding Hood and building a basket to hold apples. The next adventure will be building a strong house for The Three Little Pigs! This is what learning is all about: excitement, enthusiasm and challenges. Thank you for starting my class on this journey!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • iPad, Si-Round Four

    Funded Sep 29, 2017

Having another iPad in class is really helping my students during independent work time and during our guided reading block. It is especially useful when school computers don't always work as well as I would like. The iPad has been instrumental in providing background knowledge (such as being able to pull up an image when students are in small groups so that they have a reference point). Students are able to connect to some of their favorite educational applications, such as Scholastic News and Epic! Books for Kids. It is just great to know that people care and want to help so that students have the best available resources at their finger tips in order to receive the best education possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • iPad, Si!-Round Two

    Funded Sep 22, 2017

Thank you so much for making technology available in my classroom! Because technology is forever changing, it makes a difference for the students academically when classroom technology is current and students are able to excel because of it. My students were very excited when the iPad arrived and they could not wait until they could get their hands on it to experience some of the content that I added (reading and math). The students are excited because of how easy it is to use and how easy it is to find the app that they are looking for. Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • iPad, Si!

    Funded Sep 19, 2017

Words cannot express how truly grateful myself and my students are to know that you have made this generous donation to our class. Working with technology has become so much easier because of your donation. Students are able to partner up and share (sometimes even in three's) to work on reading, math or other projects. Practicing the use AND care of technology is so important for this age and we want them to get into good habits when using technology and when putting technology away in the classroom. It is so nice to see the students collaborate on a different level, no matter what their first language is. Seeing the smiles that I get from them is the best!”

  • Printer Equals Productivity

    Funded Jul 30, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Having a printer in class has been extremely beneficial to me and my students. We are limited by the number of copies that we can make and with a staff of just under one hundred, copies were not always received when needed. My students have benefited greatly by having materials printed in class AND in color. The impact that having printed materials (not just WORDS, but PICTURES as well), benefits my students greatly because it helps them to relate to concepts that are unfamiliar to them in English and pictures also give them the opportunity to activate and use their prior knowledge of a subject. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Awesome With Osmo!

    Funded Sep 25, 2017

My students were so excited when the Osmo arrived! Many of my students do not have laptops at home, but they are familiar with using different apps on cell phones and using gaming systems. But they could never imagine in their wildest dreams, the ability to be able to manipulate objects (such as letter tiles, tangram pieces and other objects) outside of the screen and see the result of that on the iPad screen. It was great to be able to see the wonderment in their eyes and wanting to persevere when they came across an incorrect answer. This system is a teacher's dream to supplement student learning. With this gift you have truly made a difference in the way that students view learning. Thank you for making my wish come true!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Reading=Fundamental in First!

    Funded Dec 21, 2016

My students are very excited to have the new materials in class! The stools are perfect for my guided reading groups AND when our fifth grade reading buddies come to read with us! We use the Sight Word Sentence Pocket Chart during guided reading, which helps my ESL students become more familiar with the structure of the English language by practicing sight words and punctuation.

The students were excited when the boxes began arriving and they saw their new materials. They were excited to see the new pointers that they use daily for station time and are eager to search out words and read around the room.

My students continue to support each other by using Hot Dots with partners, practicing with the great sets of sight word cards with pictures and using the new stools to share their language experiences.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

My students are fabulous first graders! We are a Title I, high poverty school, where 70% of our students receive free lunch. Many of our ESL students also have refugee status. My students are excited about learning and are eager to explore new ideas and concepts.
