Funded Nov 8, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations to our 7th Grade Action Hour class. I was so excited to have the opportunity to extend discussions about action and service to 7th graders this year. We have focused on topics such as systems thinking and how understanding systems helps us make a bigger impact on the world.
While we have not yet begun reading the books, I have shared with 7th graders the book and how we will use it to explore how to plan individual student action to effect social change. One boy flipped through the book and began reading aloud to another about one of the vignettes displaying an example of student action. I could see the wheels turning in their brains as they read about a community service project they had never imagined before!
Students have begun thinking about how they can plan their individual Community Projects for 8th grade, and this book has already inspired ideas in 7th graders. I am very excited to see what students come up with next year after reading this book!”

Funded May 13, 2019Thank you so much for your support in providing these presentation clickers to our students. They may seem like a small addition to a class, but they truly make a difference in how a child approaches preparation for presentations.
Our students are given opportunities to speak publicly beginning in Kindergarten. While many of them are confident in standing in front of others and speaking from a script or PowerPoint, they do not always have the opportunity to practice explicit presentation skills with all of the tools they might need to appear professional and poised. A student can put together a PowerPoint with engaging visuals and impactful text to supplement their presentation, but if they are tied to a podium or computer in order to change slides, their ability to connect with audience members and speak in dynamic and engaging ways is limited.
We are also excited to offer a public speaking class this year that will help students learn the concrete skills they need to utilize when giving engaging and meaningful presentations. Students will be able to use these presentation clickers during this class as well, and they will get meaningful feedback from a teacher on the effects of their speech, movement, and body language. We are so glad these clickers will be a tool in their tool box for effective public speaking!”
