Virtual Pioneers Part 2
Funded Nov 5, 2020Today's classroom is far from the traditional one we knew prior to COVID-19. While teachers and students had used technology before, we have had to adapt to a new way of teaching and learning.
After having my first project was funded, I realized that just having an iPad would not be sufficient if I wanted to make the most of my newly acquired device. So, I decided to ask for more help to get the keyboard and pen for the iPad. What a difference this has made!
Teaching with dual modalities is difficult, but having the necessary tools has made it so much better and less stressful. Having the school desktop computer is not enough to have the students on Zoom while opening different windows to teach. Since having the keyboard, the iPad serves as a secondary device which allows for the flexibility to monitor the students while sharing my screen on the other device. Having the keyboard, I can also type and work from wherever. When special area teachers come to my classroom, I can use the iPad to type up lesson plans and to keep up with checking student work. I also use the pen to teach math since I can easily write on the screen I share with students.
Having Virtual Pioneers 2 funded has saved my life! I could not teach as effectively without having the accessories to the iPad. You have given me the opportunity to improve the delivery of instruction to find different ways to reach all of my students.”

Virtual Pioneers
Funded Oct 7, 2020You cannot imagine the impact that one single device can have on a class that is working with dual modalities! My students are always a "click" away because having the flexibility to move around the room with the iPad makes a world of a difference. When a student gets "kicked out" of the Zoom meeting I do not have to run back to my desk to let him/her back in. Now I can walk around with this light weight device and keep up with the students online, and the ones that are physically sitting in class, too.
The iPad enables me to write in the math book as I am teaching my math lessons, so I do not have to worry that students cannot see the board. It enables me to teach a single student while the rest of the students are still being watched on the desktop monitor.
When special area teachers come to my class, I need to let them use the desktop computer to conduct class with the students at home. That meant I would not be able to use the computer to check student assignments, plan, enter grades, etc. Now I can remain in the room and use the iPad to continue working. Working with this device has helped in so many ways, so thank you so much for contributing to our classroom.”
