I am a social worker for three different schools in one building. Each school has its own personality, its own culture, and its issues. One thing they all have in common is that they are all three middle schools. If you remember anything from middle school or have a child in middle school, you will understand that they are faced with so much pressure from peers and are most vulnerable. This is the age that they are learning to be independent yet are scared to express that independence in fear of rejection or ridicule. My students are thirsty for acceptance, independence, and just starting to understand what the word identity means.
