These items will be used to ensure that each student feels special and valued at the start of the school year. After a mostly online learning experience last year, and with social restrictions in place as we start in-person learning this year, I know that it is essential to show the students right away that I am so excited to have them in school! Social-emotional learning is vital to ensure that each student is reaching their full potential. One important way that I can support their social-emotional development is to help them feel important and valued. All the items on this list are designed to reach that goal. The journals, pens, and erasers will be given to the students as gifts to start our "Strength in Action" activity. This is where the students take a quiz on their character strengths, then focus on using one strength per week (while journaling their experiences). The fans are essential to ensure student comfort and safety. It can get in the 90's in our classrooms; additionally, more ventilation will lessen the likelihood of spreading COVID-19 between students. The large sticky pads, smaller sticky notes, and markers will be used to help students collaborate safely. We usually work in small groups, but this year with social restrictions in place to keep students safe, that will not be possible. However, With enough supplies, I can create collaborative experiences for the students that will help address their social needs. Lastly, the printer will be used to display student work that has been created digitally, as we will be using computers often in the classroom as well. Students thrive when they see that their work is celebrated.
