What wonderful devices iPads can be! Students certainly enjoy learning with them and having fun with them. The two activities seem to fuse together when they have an iPad in their hands. We have used them for practicing math facts, for improving reading skills, for doing research on the Internet, for illustrating their projects. We even use its clock and stopwatch for science activities and learning to tell time. We have also downloaded literature to our iPads so that each one is a mini-library. We have children's books both in English and in Spanish. Each iPad has become a work-station in different subject areas. And they do not take much space. We thoroughly recommend them!”

My students are the children of Mexican, Salvadorean, and Venezuelan families. Most of them were born in the United States. Their families are mostly working class: only about 20% of them have an email address, 10% are illiterate, 15% speak Mixteca at home. Unlike students from the rest of the school whose parents are professional and middle-class, technology is not part of their lives --especially, iPads. My classroom is designed for bilingual education; transferring what is learned in Spanish to English. We have a reading area. an observation (science center), and a 3-computer center. We need iPads to allow Tier 2 and Tier 3 students to get on grade level in content areas such as math and reading.
