Students that participate in school activities do better socially and academically. By helping to fund a disc golf course for our school, it would allow another segment of the school community the ability to be able to take part in activities so they could feel connected to the school. MC is very strong academically and in its fine arts and diverts a lot of attention to these categories. As such, there is a large population that feels like the school doesn't serve them. This would be a piece to help get more students involved in MC. Simply put, disc golf is a fun activity that is enjoyed by a wide variety of students. The intention would be to create a course that any and all students could enjoy, before, during, and after school. Throughout the year, there would be free play, tournaments, and intramurals. It would be entirely free to play for all students and would allow students the opportunity to get some additional exercise in a fun setting. Additionally, disc golf would help to get students mixed up with different groups of students they might not get the chance to hang out with otherwise. While it may not seem that disc golf can have a large impact on the school and thus not worth funding, I believe that it can help the culture of the school by getting more students connected which will, in turn, improve their behavior and academic status.
