Engaging in Scholastic News and the World!
Funded Sep 19, 2016As we know, in school, it is easy for subjects like science, social studies, and art to be put off to the side for the more important subjects like reading and math. With scholastic news magazines in the classroom, we were given the opportunity to bring social studies into the classroom in a fun and interactive manner!
When it is social studies time, students engage in the lesson with it's on line resources first. Students first get introduced to the magazine by looking at the cover and asking questions. Then, we watch an introduction video and go over new vocabulary. Both are provided on line with the resources. Students are sent to read and discuss the magazine with a reading partner. After, they come back to the rug and discuss as a whole group! There is often an on line game and a worksheet that comes with the magazine that the kids enjoy playing!
When I shared the scholastic news magazine, the kids were overjoyed and excited to receive the magazines! Whenever i mention it is scholastic time, they perk up and are thrilled to bring the magazine home to share with their families. For the next weeks, students will continue engaging in weekly magazines to meet the social studies standards in a fun and engaging manner!
Thank you so much for this opportunity!”

Writing Tools To Fix Mistakes And Supplies To Stay Organized
Funded Aug 25, 2016Your contribution to our class has supported us with pencils, a pencil dispenser, mail boxes, erasable blue pens, and high quality erasers. We use all of the materials on a daily basis on everyday projects. the Blue pens are used for finished drafts of our work. The mailbox is used on a daily basis as well. At the end of everyday, students receive important papers and documents in their mail before the day ends.
My students love using the materials and find them a luxury to have. The erasers and pencils lighten up my students lives and get them excited to work. The pencils are colorful and to use the high quality erasers, they find delight erasing all of the markings off of their paper. The erasable blue pens are like magic to my students who feel good using them as they work on their writing projects. They love checking their mail at the end of day because it holds exciting news for them.
Our current project is informational writing on "How To Manuals." We are in the editing process and rough draft phase and these tools will be used to help make our writing experience a successful experience. When it comes time to work on our final drafts, students will get to use the blue pens to complete their projects.”
