Our school is settled in a very diverse area of San Francisco. It is a very small, public, and serves grades Kindergarten through 8th. Many of the families at our school live and work in the neighborhood. For generations the area has been home to diverse groups of immigrant families, and the face of the neighborhood continues to change. The school is centered around community, and was founded on these very principles. We strive to stay committed to project based learning, and part of my job is to tie reading into our projects. My classroom is multi-age, and very spread out in terms of reading level/ability. All of my students want to engage with books that are of interest to them, but this can be a challenge for students that find reading challenging; many books that are geared for their age group might not be accessible to them yet.
