Look, I Can Hold a Pencil!
Funded Nov 6, 2024Thank you very much for reading our project request for materials to promote writing in our Transitional Kindergarten classroom. We are grateful to you for funding the purchases of pencil grippers, stickers and the Montessori pencil holders.
When the materials arrived, we set up a writing center with chairs, paper, envelopes and stickers. Maria Montessori knew children and how to engage them, the students squealed in delight on how beautiful the pencils were organized in the Montessori pencil holders. Students went straight to the writing center!
On a daily basis I see students sorting the pencils colors and excited about drawing pictures for their families and friends. On one occasion, a student asked to project their drawing on the classroom monitor and now we have a daily show and tell of their colorful drawings and writing. This joy to write happened because of the materials you purchased for us. Thank you!
Our next steps are to label our learning materials so that students have more autonomy when cleaning up and looking for materials to write.
We feel that writing and speaking are very important skills to develop in early childhood and when the materials are inviting and accessible we feel that students have the opportunity to see themselves as writers and speakers and become them joyfully and wholeheartedly. Thank you very much for your generosity.”

Puppets & Folders & Pencil Pouches, Oh My!
Funded Sep 6, 2023Thank you very much for funding our project.
With your generous donation every student in my classroom had a pencil pouch, folders for social studies and a classroom set of puppets for role playing.
Keeping students' school supplies organized is important with the transitions of a school day. Having materials stored on their chairs made it easy to store their rulers, math block and student agendas. When my students helped to open the boxes, they were very excited to learn about Donors Choose.
The role playing and social emotional lessons conducted with the puppets from your gift, were entertaining and promoted empathy in a fun way. Learning through play is engaging and motivating. Thank you for the puppets.
The next steps in our goal to have more empathy and solving conflicts with classmates is to have a puppet center for student stop work in small groups roleplaying problem solving. Thank you again!”

Mrs. Montes
BAM! Our Students Read Books From Their Book Pouches!
Funded Nov 7, 2021Thank you all for taking the time to review our classroom project for book bags.
I am grateful for your generous gift to fund our classroom project. My students were very excited when I brought in the delivery boxes. When we opened them, they wondered what they were for and I told them they were for each of them.
Every student in my classroom selected the color of their choice, personalized their book bag and used it daily to take home books to read at their reading level. The book bag were used for the entire academic year and students took them home in the summer.
You gift provided a tool for my students to keep their reading books and their monthly reading log in an orgainzed manner.
Thank you for your generosity and for believing in reading.”

This classroom project was brought to life by An Anonymous Funder and 4 other donors.Bam! More Books to Take Home for Our Class!
Funded Jan 30, 2021Thank you very much for the time you took to read my project idea and going another step further and donating so generously. BAM! Room 7101 has over 100 new 100 textbooks. Every student received at least two books. Some of my students having little or no books at home received three or four. Those books are in a child's hand and are going to spark interest in a new topic, deepen an understanding in a character series or plant the seed to read forever.
I have 12 in person students and each of them selected books of their choice. I dropped off some books to students learning remotely. I also had parents come to our school office and pick them up.
In the hands of my 22 students are culturally relevant stories, high interest nonfiction texts and just plain fun books. You've made an impact on the lives of 22 second graders and an older sibling new to the US. I kept a copy of a book about the Underground Railroad to read again next year. It was a sad and moving story that touched us all.”
