Camping Equipment For Outdoor Adventurers!
Funded Dec 6, 2013Thank you all so much for your generous contributions to our Outdoor Adventures Club! Last weekend we went camping in western Massachusetts - it was awesome! The students learned to navigate in the woods, set up tents, start a campfire, and because of your donation - they learned to cook using Coleman camp stoves! They made both dinner and breakfast using the stoves and stainless steel pots and pans.
When we came back from our hike, we used the Camp Chef 20 Qt Hot Water Pot to heat water and make hot chocolate - a welcome treat given the cold and rain.
Thank you again for supporting my students. It's so important for inner-city kids to have the opportunity to explore the outdoors. Your generosity helped them learn new skills and build their confidence.”

Awww Camp Out!
Funded Aug 29, 2013Thank you all so much for your generous contributions to our Outdoor Adventure Club. Sadly, we have not had the opportunity to use all of this great outdoor equipment because of Mother Nature. Our area of the country has been blanketed in snow for quite some time.
However, we will be using all of this unbelievable gear during our upcoming camping trip over our April vacation! 30 club members will have the opportunity to camp, hike and navigate in the woods, learn to set up tents, run a camp kitchen, and more - thanks to your generosity! The kids cannot wait for this awesome experience! They just returned from an amazing snowshoeing trip, and are already itching to get back outdoors. Watching them transform as they gain experience and confidence in nature is awe-inspiring. One student on the last trip told me it was a "life-changing" experience. So again, thank YOU for helping me change the lives of my inner-city students. Your kindness and generosity is truly influencing the next generation.”

Funded Sep 16, 2013This past week, we were finally able to put all the wonderful safety equipment you donated to our Outdoor Adventure Club to good use! Fourteen members of the club traveled with me to western Massachusetts, where we spent three days and two nights snowshoeing and exploring the outdoors. During this time, students learned how to snowshoe, worked in groups to prepare meals, learned about the habitats of local animals, explored the stars through an astronomy lesson, and participated in a night hike during which they learned about triboluminescence and the human eye. They not only had a blast, but they built leadership and teamwork skills.
During our adventures, we used several of the safety items you donated! During the hikes, the adult chaperone's used the Midland GXT1000VP4 36-Mile 50-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios to communicate. We also used these during the night hike so we could keep in touch with the lodge. The hand warmers came in handy during our long snowshoeing treks, and the first aid kits were also employed. Having the safety equipment made a huge impact on our trip, and allowed my students to safely explore nature in rather extreme, cold conditions.
We are excited for our spring camping trip so we can test out the water filter! Thank you again for your generous contributions. We had a wonderful adventure, and it means a great deal to the students to have such strong support from the greater community.”

Backcountry Navigation!
Funded Dec 26, 2013Thank you so much for your generous contribution to the Outdoor Adventure Club! It is the kindness and support of people like you who keep our club active and equipped. Otherwise, we could not afford the equipment we need to do backcountry exploration and hiking. Now we will be able to teach our club members advanced navigation techniques.
My students will be so excited when we receive the GPS and they get to have hands on experience with techniques that are just theoretical to them. Thank you again and we will put your donation to excellent use!”

Funded Dec 9, 2013Wow! Thank you both for your incredibly generous donations to my students. The Outdoor Adventure Club members are going to be so excited to have the opportunity to study astronomy with this new telescope and planispheres! I have seen firsthand the impact hands-on learning can have on students, and I am so excited we will be able to integrate hands-on learning into our future overnight trips! Thank you again - your kindness will no doubt inspire many students to come!”

Tents for Outdoor Adventurers!
Funded Dec 3, 2013Thank you all so much for your generous contributions to my inner-city outdoor adventurers! We are so excited to use our new tents for our April camping trip, and for many more trips to come! Because of your generosity, we will be able to introduce the members of the Outdoor Adventure Club to camping, nature, environmentalism, science, and so much more! The tents will allow us to have overnight excursions that will include night hikes with a focus on the habitats and behaviors of nocturnal animals, as well as astronomy. I cannot thank you all enough for investing in my students and their futures!”

In Need of Memory!
Funded Sep 12, 2013This year the number of students enrolled in my digital media classes has doubled since last year. I was so stressed about having the materials I needed, yet because of your generosity, I need not have worried. The SD Cards you helped purchase have allowed my students to engage in many different video productions. So far they have recorded school football games, our annual poetry competition, a local candidates debate, and a daily news broadcast.
Your donation of SD Cards also removed an economic barrier for so many of my inner-city students. For many of them, $10 to purchase an SD card is more than they can afford. Now my students in need do not have to worry - I can lend them an SD card.
Thank you again - it means so much to me to have the support of wonderful people like you as I try to improve the lives and educational experiences of my students.”

Sketchbooks And Pencils for Budding Artists.
Funded Jun 21, 2013Thank you all so much for your generous donations to my studio art students. We received our materials about six weeks ago, and since then, the students have put them to good use! They use their new sketchbooks for homework assignments, sketching ideas, taking notes, and drawing both in and out of class. The pencils are also a wonderful addition to their toolbox of artist supplies. They've allowed the student the opportunity to learn about the different softness/hardness of leads in each pencil, as well as improve their rendition of value within their drawings.
For our most recent project, students are using their pencils and rulers to create drawings incorporating the rules of linear perspective. For this unit, they have explored the history of the Renaissance, from the perspectives of art, science, mathematics, politics, and religion. They are incorporating what they have learned into their own renditions of a 3-D space on a 2-D surface.
Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. We are all very grateful for your support!”

Film Postproduction Extravaganza!
Funded May 2, 2013Thank you all so much for your generous contribution to my classroom! We received the materials last spring just in time to complete a unit on post-production packaging and marketing. The students used the materials so graciously donated by you to create DVD's of events we covered, as well as design and print DVD labels and covers. During this process they had the opportunity turn their work into finished products.
We will continue to use these materials this year, allowing for another three classes to benefit from the materials you helped purchase. Additionally, this year's seniors will be able to produce beautifully packaged portfolio DVDs for their college applications.
Thank you again for donating to my classroom and students, and allowing me the opportunity to include a post-production unit in my teaching!”

Funded Jan 11, 2013Thank you all so much for your generous contributions to my Outdoor Adventure Club students. Because of you, all members of the club have had access to healthy snacks for our excursions.
This winter we spent three days and two nights in western Massachusetts. As the students burned calories snowshoeing through the woods, they were able to refuel with the trail mix, granola bars, and pretzels that you helped purchase for them. This spring, we spent a night camping in northeastern Massachusetts, and again, the students were grateful for the nutritious snacks as they hiked and canoed.
In fact, your generous donation also provided the snacks for two snowboarding trips in New Hampshire, as well as a community service Walk for Hunger. Amazingly, we still have enough left for two upcoming hikes in New Hampshire's White Mountains!
So thank you again fo allowing me to provide my inner-city students with healthy snacks = it has allowed us to use our limited funds to go on even more trips!”

Mrs. Bauer
