Researcher and Problem Solvers Wanted
Funded Dec 20, 2016Your generous donations have been a blessing for our classroom. I cannot wait to post the pictures showing you how much we enjoy using all our new technology. The computers have allowed me to teach math in more of a station-like manner. In this model of teaching, the students have approximately 15 minutes to work in a group on an activity, 15 minutes to work independently on the computer, and then 15 minutes to work with me in a small group. Students rotate from one station to the next. The Chrome books and headphones have been such an amazing addition to our class because now every student has the opportunity to review a video on that days topic (or an upcoming topic) as well as complete an on-line math game or project that I post. The students especially LOVE the headphones and have commented repeatedly how awesome they sound.
The students have improved greatly in their math abilities. Doing so has made them more aware of the areas they still need help in and allows them to receive the additional support while I work with small groups providing support in other ways. They enjoy being able to watch a video on their own computer. The computer station has also made my small group instruction so much more effective. The students are excited to work on the computer, which keeps them engaged (and learning) so that I can work with my group without interruptions. Being able to work with students in groups of 10 (instead of the whole class of 30), I'm able to provide the students with much more individualized instruction.
The computers have also been used in Science almost every day. The students have become much better in their questioning ability. The students now want to ask questions so that they can use the computers to research the answers to their questions. This has also improved the level of discussions that take place in our classroom. Students are now eager to share what they're learning from their research and how it pertains to our science topics.
There's so much more I plan to use the Chrome books, headphones and projector for. I have been researching all the great tools Google has to offer. (By the way, THANKS AGAIN GOOGLE FOR YOUR FLASH FUNDING!!!!) Every day I try to incorporate a new and engaging tool that Google Education provides for students. I know many of the students enjoy making PowerPoint's as a way of demonstrating their understanding. As a closure to our rates/ratios/proportions unit, students will develop a powerpoint that can be posted online and used with next years students.
Again, we sincerely appreciate each and every one of your donations. Without you, none of this would've been possible. We will be sure to always remember the love and kindness you showed us and we will try to pay this forward whenever we have the opportunity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Eaton
Bouncing Our Way Towards Learning
Funded Jan 23, 2017Thank you so very much for your kindness. My students and I sincerely appreciate it. The students LOVE bouncy bands and have been envious of the students who were chosen to try them out. I know that everyone will be excited to learn that they will all have one for their desks now. These bands really help the students quietly release their energy and stay focused on their assignments.
You donation means the world to us. You are awesome!!!!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Eaton
