I have approximately 80 students of which 99% are African American. Free or reduced price lunch is provided for 100% of the students. Many of my students are reading and writing below grade level. The school is considered as a Title I school. My school is located in the southwest corner of the city. Although many students face challenges, coming to school is their only outlet. Providing my students with the necessary tools for them to become successful is my ultimate goal. I want to show my students that there are other ways to enjoy reading. They too, can become writers or illustrators.
