  • Throw an Ipad to your Question!

    Funded Feb 27, 2015

The technology is used currently in different ways. One is being able to plan, using planbook. It is online program that allows me to plan out lessons, type up the lessons and be able to check off which common core strands are hit. After I can see a print out of what standards have not be taught, and which standards should I review again I can plan weekly, monthly, and be able to plan for the whole academic year.

I also take some online classes, using PBS. I have access to content, media that enhances my social studies projects.

What is very exciting for the students are all the downloaded videos and powerpoints that other teachers have put together, that I can download and show on the white screen. I plug in the ipad, and connect it to the white projector. Other times I connect to the classroom computer and show the students on the white board videos that I had looked up at home using the ipad.

I use the ipad daily, I look up pictures of Julia Morgan, John Muir, and the solar system, whenever students have questions on what it looks like. I also use it in small groups, reading on Anansi and showing the students pictures of the country or key vocabulary. It perks up the interest level in reading.

The pictures just show how the ipad is worked around in the classroom as a tool for ensuring I am planning better, and showing videos and images that perk up student's interest level in learning.”

  • Math Warriors; Come out and Play!

    Funded Oct 8, 2012

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful donation to my classroom. The math base ten blocks is such a great hit. The kids can actually snap on tens into hundreds and so forth, making place value an easier concept for the students to comprehend. And since they are transparent, I am able to use the overhead projector so visually the kids can see the numbers increasing and changing place value. My student's modalities are being taught to, visual and kinesthetic.

I have been pulling out children in small groups and working with them in small groups, ensuring each child can master the concept and move on with addition and subtraction, and eventually multiplication.

Thank you so much for this wonderful tool! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hernandez

My students are 8 year Olds. They are curious, quirky and very tactile. They attend an elementary school in a poor community. Many of my students just need many hands on opportunities to be able to successfully tackle word problems. First week of school, when I mentioned word problems all I heard were groans and saw a little bit of fear in their eyes. They have slowly begun to tackle word problems with a better attitude and want them to enjoy playing with critical thinking.
