Reach for the Stars!
Funded Aug 15, 2024Words can't express how grateful we are for your donation! When the students walked into the science room and saw the jars, they immediately wanted to know all about them! They were so excited to learn that earning hearts, stars and dinosaurs would mean classroom prizes and trips. All they needed to do was follow classroom expectations and show respect and kindness to their classmates as they work together. Once the students understood how to fill up their jar, they got right to work!
This has definitely been motivating to each of my classes. I can assure you that if I forget to add items to the jar or count our progress, the students remind me!
The jars not only promote excellent classroom behavior, but they promote kindness to others in and out of the classroom. Students will let me know when someone has completed an act of kindness and ask if it warrants an extra heart, star or dinosaur in the jar. It absolutely does! Kindness is key to classroom management. When expectations are followed and kindness is present then learning can flourish!
Without your generosity, I could not have purchased these items. My students would not have this beautiful visual to keep them on track and reaching for the stars!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Foley
This classroom project was brought to life by The Gates Foundation and one other donor.Science Talk ... Stay Focused/Take Turns!
Funded Aug 12, 2024Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom project, "Science Talk... Stay Focused/Take Turns!" When the materials arrived, I opened them immediately and placed them into baskets so that the students could see and use them right away!
When my first class entered the room, there was a buzz questioning what these new colorful items in our science baskets were. The students were eager to use our new tools and learn about how they would be implemented into our lessons. I explained how these were our new timers. They were going to help us stay on track and focused. Students were instructed on their use, and they have been a hit ever since! The are used daily by the entire school when they visit the science room.
The sand timers have really helped my classes take turns, write observations, complete experiments and share their data in a timely manner. This tool has given my classes ownership of their time and learning. Students look forward to being the time keeper and reminding others at their table to stay on task. It has built a team mindset at each table working towards respecting each other's voices and time!
I am so grateful for your generosity, and without you, I would not have this beautiful visual and motivator to help my students stay focused and take turns during their science talk! You have truly made a difference in their excitement for learning!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Foley
