  • Field Guides and Books for Science

    Funded Nov 12, 2024

Thank you so much for the field guides. We went on our field trip and were able to use the various field guides to identify a variety of birds and plants. We even found a snake skin shed. The students had so much fun identifying all the plants and animals we found on our field trip to Coal Oil Point. We hiked about 5 miles in several different ecosystems. We had a little game of which group could identify the most animal and plant species. Whichever group won got to get a prize. We can't wait to use the field guides for our next excursion in May when we go to the botanical garden and nature hike.”

  • An Organized Student Supply Center

    Funded Mar 4, 2025

Thanks so much for supporting this projects we are in serious need of space and the only solution is vertical storage. Also, we are running out of some classroom basics and these will be very helpful! Can’t wait to update you with photos. The students that sit near the student supply desk will appreciate it so much.”

  • You Won't Egret This

    Funded Nov 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation and helping fulfill our class project. We just got back from our field study. The students learned about the birds of Coal Oil Point Nature Reserve and Devereux Slough. We started the day off by looking at the salt marsh where students used the monoculars, clip boards, and field guides to identify as many birds as possible. We then hiked to a bluff where we saw many shore birds. We also hiked to a pond and we saw more ducks. We traversed about 5 miles on our bird excursion and we saw so many different types of birds in different ecosystems (sandy beach, salt mash, estuary, ponds, ocean). Some of our class favorites were the snowy egret, the great egret, the great blue heron, cormorants, hummingbirds, red-tail hawks, turkey vultures, pelicans, snowy plovers and a willet. It was absolutely magical and the views were breath taking. We were so fortunate to have amazing weather. The clip boards were perfect to fit in their back packs and the added storage space held their pencils and notes. The waterproof field guides were perfect because sometimes students dropped it but there was no damage. The monoculars were such a great tool for them to learn how to use. My class is hooked on bird watching. I hope I can take them out again.”

  • Year of the Snake

    Funded Jan 22, 2025

Thank you so much for the decorations, button accessories, fortune cookies, and craft papers. My students loved all the decorations. My senior lab assistants helped assemble and put together all of the lanterns. We attached them to the ceiling and added the cherry blossom lanterns by our window. We learned about various snake species because it is Year of the Snake. I also taught the students about the unique traditions and celebrations my culture does to celebrate. The students created their snake buttons and proudly displayed them on their back packs. They also enjoyed creating an origami fortune cookie and exchanging them with other students.”

  • Let's Turnip the Beet

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation for the hydroponics farmstand and supplies. My senior lab assistants set it up for me. The accessories like the wheel stand they also assembled and put together. This was a student built and student led project. Students in my clubs and classes also harvested their vegetables. Their favorites were the lettuce heads and fresh herbs. I enjoyed seeing what vegetables they liked. Turns out students don't like arugula but they all tried it. We are looking forward to the spring crop of veggies and foods. My students are interested in edible flowers and using them for other projects. My students have embraced fresh vegetables.”

  • Science Class Needs Science Labs

    Funded Nov 11, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting this project. Feeling so appreciative and thankful for the science matches and your generosity. Myself and the students have a lot of ideas on what labs to do in class and these are going to help so much. I can’t wait to tell the students and update you when we complete these labs.”

  • Good Chives Only

    Funded Oct 21, 2024

Thank you so much for the watering ollas. They have been such a great help. We planted some seeds and also planted some tiny establish sweet pea seedlings we started indoors during class. We also got another big seed donation because we didn't use all of the watering ollas yet but we are going to finish setting up the beds next week. We wanted to test them out first and so far the sweet pea seem very established 10 days later. Next week my students are going to use the rest of the watering ollas in these little flower pot tubs that a person in the community gave us. We wanted to make sure that the set up worked and was sufficient for sustaining the sweet peas. Thanks again! My students in Garden Club really appreciate it.”

  • Sensing New Sensations with Sensors, Part 2

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thank you so much for the gas pressure sensors. We have been using them for a variety of labs. We used for our cell energy unit where students looked at the photosynthetic and respiration rates of spinach leaves in their bio chambers. They were able to use two sensors at once and see their data being collected in real time. In addition to data collection, the students are learning how to organize and present their data. This is a process and the sensors really help with that. In the future we will continue to use the sensors in class. In our physiology unit coming up the students are going to use the sensors for ran exercise activity where we go outside and we can measure breathing rate, heart rate, and oxygen consumption. Thank you so much for the lab equipment. The students love it.”

  • Diverse Learners Need a Variety of Games in Biology

    Funded Sep 30, 2024

Thank you so much for the document camera, games, and laminating pouches and pencils and pencil sharpener. The document camera has been so helpful for students to be able to see the diagram and follow along with the lesson. I can always record videos while I'm going over concepts and share those with the students that need reinforcement for students that were absent. The games have been super fun. I found a template on etsy that I keep reusing so we can add new vocabulary terms and pictures. For holidays I'm thinking of letting my clubs uses them for team building games. The laminating pouches have allowed me to make new resources that can be reused. I also laminated some student work examples and tacked them up in my classroom.”
