Whole Body Learning!
Funded Oct 13, 2015Thank you for the funding of my project "Whole Body Learning!" The equipment that was purchased from these project funds have been used on a daily and weekly basis since they were delivered to the school.
My students benefit greatly from the adapted seating. Many of the students that I work with have the diagnosis of ADHD, a learning disability, or autism. It is so important for them to be able move while working on desk work. With the adapted seating options, they are able to move while staying productive and focused during their seat work.
In addition to the adaptive seating, students have benefited from the scooter board, bean bags, and parachute. I use these materials as preparatory activities for academics. My students are using this equipment to build upper body strength and endurance, motor coordination and social skills. These are all foundational skills necessary for students to be successful in school.
When the students first saw the materials that were purchased through this grant, they immediately wanted to use and try them. Now students expect to use them on a daily basis to help get their bodies ready for learning.
I plan to continue to use these items throughout the school year and expect that they will last for many years to come. These materials have also been beneficial to demonstrate to my principal and other teachers who work with kids with disabilities the value and benefits of whole body learning experiences.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Thompson
