My students are THE MOST creative when their imagination is allowed to run free. They are always planning and creating some sort of project. With the majority of last year being in distance learning because of the pandemic we had few opportunities to build classroom community and culture which I know is a key to academic success. They had to come back and relearn how to be in a social setting in school again. The house system I started this year has helped with that. Students in each house work together every day, socially and academically. They are always looking for ways to define what it means to be a student at Anderson. We have also really focused on building one another up through encouragement. Coming back from a difficult year there have been challenges getting students acclimated to a learning environment again. As soon as we started talking and planning for houses the students became ALL IN to make it happen. They have really taken the reigns of this project and made it their own. Each of the houses in my classroom, Harmony, Symphony, and Cadence, all have their own color that matches with our main school colors. They have requested supplies many times to be able to make posters or decorations to show their house spirit. Having a wide array of supplies in each of their house colors, and of different varieties, will allow my students to SHOW OFF their creativity and take pride in their groups. I also requested things like a button maker, sticker maker, and a cricut so they can really just...make anything! This project will allow them to make decorations, posters, and projects for their houses without the limit of the supplies we currently have on hand.
