Our Miraculous Journey Into Reading
Funded Mar 14, 2024Thank you for your donations to our classroom. With your help my students now have their own copy of "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane"!
Now that they have their own copy I am able to have a book study. Your donation has helped me with building community in the classroom, exposing students to engaging characters and plots that keep students interested in reading, developing vocabulary/decoding skills, stamina, fluency and comprehension. When we are learning a new phonics skill, they love going into their book to find examples.
The story is so engaging and having their own copy allows them to reread their favorite parts, analyze characters, and answer comprehension questions by providing evidence from the text.
Having their own copy allows them to read when they have free time and catch up when they need too. I am having them write a constructed response per chapter in CANVS, a learning management system we use in CCSD. This is definitely helping them prepare for higher level thinking.”

Taking Charge of My Learning
Funded Nov 11, 2023Thank you for your generous donation to our class! We feel organized and ready to learn! The chair caddies allow my students to safely put away their Chromebooks, headphones, pencils, and even their water bottles! In the past, their desks were cluttered with their Chromebooks and headphones since their desks were filled with books and other supplies. Being organized gives my students a feeling of being ready to learn, free of distractions.
The metacognition flip charts have also been a great tool for my students. We use them throughout the day, especially in math. At the beginning of each lesson, my students tell me how they are feeling about the day's learning standard. As the lesson progresses they can asses how they are doing and they let me know. I can form groups and help those who need it the most. They are in charge of their learning. I am already seeing growth! Thank you so much! Your donations will have an impact on my students for years.”

Funded Sep 26, 2020My students and I would like to thank you for donating to our project. Scholastic News Magazine is something we have enjoyed every year. This year due to distance education it was a little different to say the least. I still wanted my students to have access to current events and news from all over the world.
I have been using Scholastic News Magazine to help me with lesson planning. I have used the magazine in my Social Studies, Science, and even Health lessons. I am able to link the desired video, article, or graphic to my Canvas lesson. Students then easily join by typing in my code. It is so easy! The site also provides assessments and assignments that I link to Canvas through Google drive. It has saved me so much time.
I love how I can trust Scholastic News with reporting current events in a way that is fair and age appropriate for my third graders. All my students tell me they enjoy "flipping"through the magazine. I love how my lower leveled readers are also able to enjoy the text by using the text to speech.
I thank you for allowing me to have access to wonderful lessons and ideas. My students have a safe and accurate way of reading news and so many other interesting topics.”

Funded May 15, 2013Thank you all so much for your support. It means a lot to me to have people believe in what I am doing in my classroom. My goal is to make an impact in all of my students' lives and your support helps me to achieve just that.
The Word Work centers my class received are simply amazing! They allow my students to work on vocabulary and grammar. They help my center time run smoothly. I do not have to spend hours making copies or setting up centers. Best of all my students really enjoy working on these centers alone or with a partner.
The writing and comprehension notebooks are extremely beneficial. They allow my students to organize their writing and have ready made activities that help build their comprehension skills as well as their writin skills. In third grade writing and comprehension are two areas that are worked on everyday. These folders just make things much easier for me and the students love having their own personal notebooks.
Again, I am very grateful for your donations to my class. My students are a wonderful bunch of kids and it makes me extremely happy to see them enjoying their time here with me.”

Funded Apr 29, 2013Thank you very much for your generous donations to my project, "Building a Classroom Library". This has been by far the most popular and loved project by my students. They were extremely excited about receiving books. When they arrived they all cheered!
My students absolutely love these books. When we have reading time, my room is so quiet, it is scary. They are all immersed in the reading. No one is wasting time. It was unbelievable.
I have leveled all the books and created a wonderful classroom library. My students get to "shop" once every two weeks. This has totally changed the dynamic of my class. I can truly say the library is instilling a love for reading.”

Funded Jul 1, 2010Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom! My students enjoy playing the various Bingo games and the multiplication game.
My students run to use the games whenever they have finished in-class math assignments. They love getting groups of friends together to play Bingo. They also love using the multiplication game. It's so much fun for them to hear the sounds and see the flashing lights.
I love the fact the my students are not only learning but having fun! They are greatly benefiting from the fun practice they get everyday!”

Funded Jun 24, 2010Thank you so much for generous donations to my classroom! The children have really benefited from the supplies they received in the beginning of the year.
Each of my students received their very own sharpener! It's a durable sharpener. They all enjoy having it in their desk. They no longer have to go outside to sharpen their pencils. It's a big time saver!
My students also received a bound index card book. We have been using it every day. It has become their " Idea Book"! They write all the important definitions and terms they learn every day. Then they can go back and study whenever they have free time.
My students are truly grateful for your donations as am I!”

Funded Jun 23, 2010Thank you so much for your generous donations! My class has greatly benefited from the valuable resources we received. They enjoy using them every day!
We have been using the Test Prep Cards daily. My students use them during reading centers. Some of them like to practice them individually while others enjoy using them with a partner. In addition, I have used them in small group and conducted "Quiz Shows". The students are learning while having fun!
All the reading comprehension centers and non-fiction comprehension games have also improved test scores. My students have been using them all during centers. There test scores have greatly improved and there is no doubt in my mind that these centers have had a lot to do with it!”

Funded Mar 31, 2010Thank you so much for your generous donation! My students are thoroughly enjoying using the match up games and all the vocabulary activities we were provided.
Having these resources in my classroom really enhances my lessons. In third grade students need to know all about prefixes, suffixes, synonyms, antonyms, multiple meaning words, and context clues. They are tested every trimester. These resources allow me to provide the much needed exposure to all these types of standards.
My students enjoy the puzzles and I can see they are truly learning. The vocabulary is "sticking" and I love to see my students learn. On behalf of my students, Thank you!”

Funded Oct 14, 2009I am extremely thankful for your donations. My students are excited to use the Read and Respond Center as well as the Center Chart and organizer. They love doing centers. Your donations helped me organize the centers to make them run smoothly.
During centers, I meet with my groups. I have a high, middle, and low group. I need to have the room quiet while I work with these small groups. I can not have students interrupting me with questions about their centers. I also do timed readings, which have be uninterrupted.
Now that I have these supplies, my students know exactly where to go and what to do. They know where all the work is organized and they do everything independently. I can now work with my groups and give them my undivided attention.
Again thank you for caring about my students. I am very grateful for your donations and my students are too!”

Mrs. Gonzalez
