  • Starting Off Strong!

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

What a great way to start the year with a fully funded project. The supplies you provided us will help take a little of the load off my already full plate. The students will be so appreciative of the calming place to get themselves back together and I will be delighted to not run out of tissues and tape. Our centers will be laminated and it will save me so much work down the line because they will be sturdy enough to use year to year. I feel so blessed by your generosity.”

Yay! I’m so excited to be in this school year on the right foot. My students are going to make their goals because of these supplies. I’m so excited to see their faces as we read, write and explore the world around us. My heart is so grateful fo”

Thanks so much for these wonderful supplies. They continue to make a difference by making learning so fun! I was able to use the shredder for our enormous piles of testing tickets that need to be disposed of quickly. What a difference from last year where I used the school one which was on it's last legs and it took me hours to do.

The students favorite, by far, are the pop its with the numbers 1-100. My newcomers can all count to 100 and we have used them for teaching concepts like one more and one less, ten more and ten less. Student's love playing to learn and I love the amazing progress they are showing as they embrace using these tools.

Thanks again for thinking of my lovely students. Many are refugees or kids who come to me with trauma. Being able to support them with the supplies I need has made a huge difference this year. I'm extremely grateful for your kind donations.”

  • Lights, Camera, Action!

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

Thank you so much. This light table is amazing. The students were delighted with the textures and the lights and they happy worked at the center identifying letters. I am excited to change the center out each week and target a new skill for students to practice.

The materials were so easy to put together and having all the parts from the remote to the special tub for sensory bits made it easy for me. I'm a lot less worried about spreading germs and I know it will continue to be a popular center in my room.

    I appreciate you.”

  • Math and Reading-Watch Me Shine!

    Funded Apr 15, 2022

Thank you so much for these amazing materials. I've already pulled out the Elephant linking chains and the Ice cream cones to help develop fluency in identifying numbers 1-10. My students are newcomers to this country so while they can count in their own language, Identifying numbers and being able to write them in our language can be tough. It's much more fun to learn through play than by rote on a worksheet.

The students are eager to learn and love using the playful materials to figure out basic knowledge in English. They are using the other materials as well when they fit with our curriculum and current objectives. The students are thrilled with these fun supplies and the opportunity to learn and grow in their language. Thank you so much for providing a fun and immersive way to develop language..”

  • Learning English Is Fun!

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

These photocard libraries have been a wonderful addition to our curriculum. I can always find a picture to go with a vocabulary word and the addition of them has helped my students acquire language in a very straightforward way. The newcomers are often overwhelmed and start in a long silent period, but these materials make it easier to transition to using language to communicate.

The kids love learning new words and I'm beginning to see them use words they've learned in everyday conversations.

I'm so grateful for your contribution to my classroom. I'm enjoying using these materials as I teach English to refugees and other newcomers to America.”

  • LEGOs So I Can Write!

    Funded Mar 15, 2022

We used the white paper already to paint and then paired it with a math activity. We also love the storytelling lego set. It's inspired conversations, retelling of stories and even making up new stories. The characters are plentiful and the students love when I pull the set out. The magnatiles with letters has inspired students to sort the alphabet and we are ready to write our sounds. We have been struggling a bit with writing but these materials have provided an inspiration to move to pencils and paper. I'm so proud of my students and their progress and that is thanks in part to you. Thank you for caring about them.”

  • Lego my Imagination!

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

These Legos were amazing. The packaging and the suggestions for educational use were limitless and the kids were fascinated by each new box we unwrapped. I put the sets into a Kindergarten and into a First grade room and students immediately jumped in to build the pictured scenes all the while chattering with excitement. I am thrilled that we now have these stem toys to explore and communicate with. I've already noticed structures getting more complicated and students showing each other tricks to build with better foundations or stronger bases. The students love the feelings Lego set. We talk a lot about what we are feeling and the students who need to de escalate to learn can build their emotion and thus find a way to express their feelings. It helps them to calm down and communicate so they can get back to class and concentrate on new lessons. Every classroom in an elementary school should have this set! Thank you so much for caring about my students.”

  • Happy Class, Happy Home!

    Funded Jan 12, 2022

I wish my pictures showed the reaction of kids coming into my room. The new fireplace makes the room feel both cozy and homey. The kids love reaching for a center from the shelves and the dual language supplies fit pretty well. I'm already planning on turning it into a cozy book corner next year. The kindergarten teachers at my school all marveled and ran to write their own donor's chooose for the exact same fireplace bookcase.

It makes such a difference to walk into a colorful room filled with activities where you can explore and learn. Thank you so much for making my classroom what it is.”

I have a class of sweethearts all eager to learn and ready to play. Several of my students are ELL and all come from a pretty poverty stricken background. Often both parents are working and the students are left to help take care of the youngers. In some ways they are very self sufficient and in others there are heartbreaking stories. It's not unusual for me to call on our community resources to bring shoes to fit a child or to seek out a special lovey for a child who is essentially homeless. But kids are kids and they are full of energy and a real interest in the world around them. As part of a community school we do a lot to foster relationships with our parents and they are invited to come to my class often throughout the year. Students are working hard to master the alphabet this year and become early readers. It's a huge undertaking when several students have never held a pencil much less written their name. I will leave you with two short stories about my class. On the first day of school, I read "First Day Jitters" to my class. The teacher in the story had a Dad who woke her up to go to school. I had a student who took exception to the fact that a teacher could have a dad and he kept saying "God made teachers." I finally just agreed with him, because there was no convincing him that teachers aren't special. The second story is about a class rule. From Day 1 I worked on procedures with my class. We use Whole brain teaching rules and Rule #2 is Raise your hand for permission to speak. The kids were brilliant learning these rules and as a teacher I can shout out Rule number 2 and every student echoes it back while making the motions that go along with it. On day 6 of school when my class continued to be noisy, I asked the question, "What does it mean to speak? and the room got awfully quiet. Not one student raised their hand. They'd learned the rule, but I'd forgotten some simple vocabulary. We had to learn the word "speak". This will for sure not be the last time I'm reminded to slow down and come at my students with every teaching strategy and game choice I can. They need a rich robust vocabulary and a strong reading and language rich classroom. The few hours they spend with me need to be jam packed with interesting and relatable lessons. I'm committed to bring them this opportunity to learn and grow every day.
