Literacy Resources to Support Foundational Literacy Skills!
Funded Dec 15, 2023Your impact in contributing literacy resources to support foundational reading skills has been nothing short of transformative! With the introduction of fidget literacy games into the classroom, students have found a renewed enthusiasm for learning. These games provide an interactive and engaging way for students to practice essential reading skills on a daily basis. From phonics to comprehension, the fidget literacy games allow students to actively participate in their own learning journey.
The reaction from students upon using these games was beyond excited and thankful. As students continue to utilize these resources, their confidence grows, and their skills become more refined. Beyond just basic reading proficiency, these games pave the way for advanced word study, laying a solid foundation for a lifetime of literacy success.
Thanks to your generosity, students now have access to a comprehensive toolkit that not only enhances their foundational reading skills but also fosters a love for learning. With continued support, these resources will continue to empower students to unlock the endless possibilities that literacy affords, paving the way for brighter futures and endless opportunities.”

Fresh Clean Air Helps Us Learn & Grow!
Funded Aug 31, 2021Today we begin the winter season with Covid cases increasing in schools and the Omicron variant spreading quickly. We wanted to take this time to thank you all for your very generous donations for our classroom air purifier project! We continue to open classroom windows and utilize the air purifiers daily. We are truly so grateful to have the air purifiers and continue to do all that we can to stay healthy and safe here at school.
This school year our second-grade students are not only responsible for their classwork and homework. They have taken on new "pandemic" roles of mask wearing, charging and bringing laptops to and from school, and keeping as much of a distance as possible from others throughout the school days. They have been responsible with the air purifiers within the classroom from the first week of school. Students understand that the purifiers are here to keep healthy air quality within our classroom and not toys or something to play with.
I continue to be amazed by this wonderful, bright, caring group of second graders and thank you for all that you've done to protect our learning space. Wishing you all a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season! Happy New Year from all of us here at Hampden Elementary Middle School!”

Second Grade Curriculum Books!
Funded Mar 2, 2020I'd like to thank you all for your very generous donations to our classroom book project! As you know, schools here in Baltimore City closed on March 12, 2020 and a date that teachers and students will be able to gather in classrooms again is to be determined. I have spent the last 11 weeks of distance learning reflecting on the time that I had with my wonderful second graders inside our classroom. I've felt so proud of the way they could navigate our classroom library, the excitement in their eyes as they found true joy in reading and sharing information as a class, and the ways that they could reference texts to help each other in completing writing work. These events are a true testament to how important books are to students!
Your donations not only allowed my second graders to explore and read books inside our classroom but became a part of the day that they looked forward to at home! At the closure of schools, I brought copies of each book home to record read alouds and we used them often during our live sessions on google meet. Students also accessed digital copies of the books so that they could read them throughout the day. In many ways, these books helped us to keep things moving and have a sense of normalcy during very uncertain times. We continued to have discussions about The American West, Civil Rights Heroes, and Good Eating although we were apart.
My second graders are at the very beginning of finding what it means to have a love for reading and books. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing them with access and opportunities to books that they would not otherwise have. I believe that these books will impact students for years to come and truly appreciate all of your donations. Be well and don't ever stop reading!”
