  • Creating a Calm Kindergarten

    Funded Dec 2, 2024

I am so thankful to have a supportive community! Our new rug looks absolutely fabulous! It is very large and has a pastel color scheme to support the feel of a more calm environment. The kids sit there for story time, calendar, class discussions, and some small group lessons. We have also used it for letter recognition practice; I will say a letter or a letter sound, and the chosen kid gets to jump to that spot on the rug. They love practicing their letters that way! We were also able to use our old rug in our indoor recess area, making a softer landing for our slide; so your support of this project helped in more ways than one! I'm sure future classes will enjoy this rug for years to come.”

  • Keeping Indoor Recess Moving!

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

I can't thank you enough for supporting this project. The kids have loved having more choices on days when the weather requires an indoor recess. The stepping stones and parachute seem to be their favorites, but the carnival game set and beach balls are also popular. I know as the weather gets colder and we are forced to have more frequent inside recesses, it will be crucial to have as many activities that encourage movement as possible.

We have been setting up stations and rotating through so each kid gets a chance to do some of the bigger movement options for at least a portion of their recess time. It has really helped to allow them that time to get up and move rather than being restricted to things that are really meant more for sitting like lego building or coloring. I'm so appreciative of your help in making this possible for my kids. They love their new stuff!”

  • Stock the Shelves!

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my readers! These books flew off the shelves faster than I could put them up there. I have several students who are dedicated readers of a particular series. Having the full set (or at least several options within the series) has made a huge difference for them. They're getting to find out how their stories finally end and are experiencing new adventures with characters they love.

One particular student hasn't willingly read a book all year because all he wanted was the next Wings of Fire book. Since these arrived, he has finished two of the novels and is working on a third. I'll be so excited to see his reading fluency progress by the end of the year. He, and several others, will only get better, and it's because people like you are will to support their specific interest.”

  • Fresh and Clean!

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

Our new custodian and I cannot thank you enough. I have two dedicate "moppers" who love to clean any spill or spot that shows up on our floors. Before we had the mops, it was sometimes hard to get a volunteer to sweep. Now that they know they can mop afterwards, I have two students who love to help with this daily task. It allows our new building custodian to dedicate more time to other rooms, therefore making her job easier and our entire building just a little bit cleaner. I also love that it is helping them to take some responsibility for keeping their classroom clean. It has encourage the entire group to be more cautious because they see who is cleaning up after them, and they care about not making that job harder.

So, thank you again, for helping us with this unconventional funding request. We appreciate the endless support of the Donor's Choose community!”

  • Seating Options

    Funded Sep 6, 2023

I can't thank you enough for helping to provide some seating options for my classroom.

The floor chairs get daily use during independent work and/or reading time. The class decided that the chairs should be available in two ways: either their name gets randomly drawn from a cup for the chair, or they can "spend" their points to "buy" the chair for that time.

The chair bands have been placed mostly on the desk legs, and every kid makes good use of them. They have placed them at various heights depending on how each individual student wants to use them--some use them as a foot rest, and others as a bouncy fidget band.

These options have truly helped to keep them focused during tests, lessons, reading, and more.

The kids tell other classes about these items, and every time they are so appreciative and recognize that they are special privileges that they enjoy as part of our class.”

  • Starting the New Year Stocked!

    Funded Aug 25, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting this project! We have been putting all of the supplies to good use. Kids are using the headphones for online lessons and story read aloud videos. The paper has been turned into so really creative projects for English (narratives), science (food chain models), and social studies (state reports). We also used the scissors for the science and social studies projects. I've been able to print colored copies for some of my modified assignments that require colored words or images. We have also used the dry erase markers in all subjects for participating in whole group and small group lessons, as well as solving math problems during independent work time.

Having all of this to start the year with has made things so much easier and smooth. Thank you!”

  • Incentives to Keep Them Going!

    Funded Apr 8, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting this project! My students have really enjoyed having new prize options to get them through these last several weeks of school. They especially like the snack foods and the fidget toys. I have been handing out the metallic markers for students who score well on test reviews and quizzes in class, and that has really worked well as a motivator!

I can already see that I will have a lot of the fidgets, markers, and mochi toys left to use for next year as well. Knowing that I'll already have a well stocked prize box to start the year off takes off some of the stress about providing things for a new school year, so thank you!”

  • Seating Options

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting this project for my classroom. My students really love both the chair bands and the two rocker floor seats!

The chair bands are on their individuals chairs at their regular desks, so they are accessible for students to use during all classes of the day. Most of them utilize the bands all day without evening noticing that they are doing it. It allows them an outlet for some of their movement needs, and I know they appreciate it!

The rocker floor seats are in our library area, and students often use them during independent reading time or independent work time. These seats are almost never empty unless I've asked students to remain at their desks.

Thank you for helping my students to have extra seating options and the chair bands to help them focus.”

  • Engaging Resources

    Funded Jul 2, 2022

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project! I have already been able to use the gift cards to purchase several resources for this school year, and I have plenty of funds to purchase additional items as the year progresses.

So far, I have purchase some sentence fragment and run-on task cards, an interactive math word problem game that students access online--this one was really cool as it tells a story as they answer the problems and make choices--a set of place value games, some modified science materials for a few of my students needing some scaffolding, and a really fascinating article set about dangerous islands that we used to compare and contrast.

The best part is that these resources will be available for me to use with all of my future classes as well as this current group! Thank you so much!”

My students are awesome! They are so enthusiastic, but they are also constantly worried about getting in trouble for not having the items that were on my recommended supplies list (specifically my 6th grade students). Transitioning to middle school is stressful, and I would like to ease some of that stress for them. This is my first year with 6th grade students, and I quickly realized that they have not yet learned organizational skills. They make up for it in cuteness though! I'm never lacking for someone to talk to or tell me a silly story with ALL of the details!
