Virtual Field Trips
Funded Dec 22, 2021We are so appreciative of this donation. The pandemic has made it difficult for us to take our students on field trips and outings into the community. Having this technology in our classroom has been a game changer for lots of our students. We are able to visit places our students have never been to and immerse them into new environments. The conversations created from these places have got our ELD students talking, listening, speaking, and reading new language.
Our students have loved visiting places internationally and connecting to places where their families are from. It's incredible for them to be able to visit their home countries and share stories/places they are from with other students. When students are able to connect with their own personal backgrounds, it deepens our learning environment within the community. Thank you so much! This has been a wonderful opportunity for our kids.”

Funded Dec 22, 2021It has been so wonderful not spending our time and energy in class looking for caps to dry erase markers and having to replenish them every couple of weeks. Our students enjoy using the LCD writing tablets and excited to build sentence frames and complete math problems on them.
We also have thoroughly enjoyed using our Eggspert trivia buzzers to motivate our students during reading comprehension read alouds and building our math fluency together.
Your donation has helped create a more engaging learning environment for our students. We thank you for your impact on this community!”

Funded Oct 22, 2021Thank you for helping us build a larger library of books that tell the stories of indigenous communities in this lands history. The impact of your donation allows us to have conversations about who is missing from the stories of history and the impacts of colonization on society. Our students are asking questions like why have I never learned about this before? How come these type of books aren't always in our libraries? Who gets to pick what we learn? How is history passed on to the next person and who gets to tell it? These conversations are needed in our communities and help shape important cultural critical thinking skills for our next generation of students. Thank you for helping us build access to this curriculum!”

Funded Sep 23, 2021It is wonderful to have multiplied our classroom libraries with books that have representation for the students in our community. Just as it's important for our Black students to have teachers that look like them in the community, it is also important for them to have literature that tells stories they can see themselves in. We have been busy leveling our new books by grade level and including them in our classrooms so that we are not just celebrating Black History Month on the shortest month of the year, and we include these resources for our students throughout the year. We also appreciate having extra digital resources available to this community for our racial equity committee and the impact you made with your donations will be celebrated for years to come.
Thank you!”

Funded Mar 8, 2018Thank you for choosing us to receive your generous donation. Our students love to connect their personal stories to tangible things they can print on our new 3D printer. We have started learning how to create and draft items for the 3D printer utilizing basic shapes and it has also been an excellent introduction into identifying shapes. The students are excited to use the 3D printer and develop personal connections to items from their home country. The printer is also quick and quiet which makes it less of a distraction during periods of instruction.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for helping me fund and go on this extraordinary journey through outdoor learning. We were able to visit Galiano, Mayne Island, and Saturna during out stay. Most of our trip consisted of biking or Kayaking to new locations or exploring the tide pools during low tide. This class taught me a great length about identifying species, as well as understanding the moon cycle in order to learn how to read the tides. We were able to spot hundreds of eagles and seals, as well as many, kingfishers, woodpeckers, turkey vultures, minks, red tipped blackbirds, starfish, jellyfish, crabs, porpoises, jumping salmon, rabbits, and deer.
Id have to say the highlight of this trip was having a Porpoise breach within feet of my kayak as we were peddling though The Salish Sea. I felt like I was in The Galapagos Islands of The Pacific Northwest. Everywhere I turned I was seeing birds and mammals I had never seen before. The only uneventful part of this class was having our car break down on the ferry and needing to get a part shipped from the main island while we sought the expertise of the only mechanic on the island. Luckily we were able to get off the island. We were fortunate to have such kind and gracious people help us with our car problems during our stay.
Getting kids to think scientifically by learning how to identify species is something I will take back from this trip and bring into the classroom. The Southern Gulf Islands were full of wildlife that I had never seen before in my life. We were able to learn how to classify living things we see by studying their characteristics and creating a symbolized key for observing new types of species. A bird with a long beak to hunt for insects in trees might be recorded as B1 while a bird with a short beak might be recorded as B2. Each studied characteristic would then be combined together to create a long symbol of letters for identifying new plants and mammals such as B1C4D3Y8. Another great activity I plan on doing with some of our ESL students is creating picture captions for living things you find outside. Since we are a year round school we have already started the school year and I hope to share these activities in our student thank you's soon.”

Funded May 5, 2018Thank you for your contribution to our classroom. Having two additional VR devices has allowed our class to be fully engaged in our Google field trips and reduced the amount of devices we have to share. We are so grateful for the opportunity to take our kids to new and exciting places each day. This past week we have looked up at The Great Pyramid of Giza, scaled The Great Wall of China, and dove into The Great Barrier Reef. The VR lessons immerse our kids into states of awe and wonder. We love being able to take several field trips a week.”

Teaching STEM with 3D Printed Bottle Rockets
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for donating the supplies we need to get our 3D printed bottle rockets started. We are excited to have enough 3D filament to print all of our rocket designs. The rockets require a lot of extra filament because they are large in size compared to most things that are 3D printed, so its awesome to have enough to cover each child in class. We are also very appreciative to have the 3D enclosure because it keeps the 3D printing environment safe for the younger students who become tempted to touch the 3D printer while its heating up.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for the wonderful new 3D printer. We were able to set up our printer very quickly as its super user friendly. Our kids have been able to get started on our 3D printed rocket project and are happy to have not only a 3D printer but a very reliable one as well. The students have been able to watch their designs print without errors, which has saved us valuable class time. We are very excited to launch our rockets soon and cant wait for some sunny spring weather to spend the day outside with our 3D creations.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you very much for donating towards our class drone. Most of our students have never flown a drone and were incredibly excited to have the opportunity to take photos of our school from way above. At the moment we will be working on calculating/estimating the perimeter of our library based on our measurements of one corner section of the building. We will be printing our aerial photos of the school to create a scaled guide based on our previous measurements. After we have finished perimeter we will be moving on to the surface area of surrounding buildings in our local environment.”
