  • Books Books Books and More Books!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

I am so thankful for Donor's Choose. They have helped me build a beautiful library for my students. These new books will be a hit in the classroom. We start off every single day with a read aloud and so when they see new books arrive, they get excited. I am hoping that by reading aloud to the kids every day, they will begin to love reading too and will find that you can get lost in a good book. Thank you to all the donors who have helped to make my library one of a kind! The kids have so many options and they love that they have lots of choices. Thank you!”

  • National Day Fun with Buddies

    Funded May 5, 2022

When you are trying to get your kids excited for school, why not celebrate National Days?! There are so many fun days each month that can be celebrated. My colleague and I picked 2 National Days each month and created little surprises to celebrate those days. We meet through Google Meets and talk about the significance of the National Day and then we surprise the kids with a little something special to remember the day! The kids love this and so do we! Thank you for helping us celebrate these one of a kind days!”

    With gratitude,

  • Happy Day

    Funded May 1, 2022

I wanted to create a day where we celebrated being happy. The room was filled with smiley balloons. The kids received little envelopes with surprises after completing each subject during the day. The day was filled with smiles. Your donation helped provide all of the goodies that the students received for Happy Day! Thank you so much for helping to make this day possible. It was so nice to see the kids get excited! They were so happy to work on their projects throughout the day and they didn't even realize how rigorous the activities were! Thank you!”

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

This was a new transformation that we did with the entire 2nd grade. The second grade teachers read the book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to all the students. We then created a Willy Wonka adventure for the students. Each classroom became one of the rooms from the Wonka factory. The kids went to each room and completed math, reading, and writing activities. The activities were all based on our power standards and were quite rigorous. The kids had a phenomenal day and so did the teachers! Thank you for helping to make this a special day for our students.”

  • Mario Day

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

Mario Day is one of my kids very favorite days of the year. The kids put on their Mario and Luigi hats and work their way through a variety of activities. Each activity hits a power standard and is a review for the students. They work in teams to try to accomplish each task. Along the way, they earn surprises for accomplishing their tasks. The kids absolutely love the activities and they don't even realize they are learning! Thank you for helping to make this project come to life. We appreciate donors like you!”

  • Mario, Airplanes, LEGOS...Oh My!

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

I love doing transformations in my room and this project allowed me to do a Mario Day as well as a Lego Day. The kids loved being transported to the world of Mario and Luigi. For this transformation, they worked their way through different levels. Each level was an activity that utilized a skill that they had worked on in class. As they worked their way through the levels, they earned Mario surprises. For Lego day, we brought out all the blocks. The kids spent the day building and designing and creating! Thank you for helping to make this possible! We love being able to do these fun activities with our students.”

  • Transforming the Classroom

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

I am so thankful for Donors Choose. Through this organization, I have been able to do some pretty incredible things in my classroom. Transformations have been a key factor in heightening student engagement. Kids need to be excited to learn. To keep them excited, I change the theme in my classroom and develop rigorous activities around standards that kids need work on. Paragraphing is a huge skill that second graders need to tackle! We had the kids dress up in aprons and chef hats and they cooked up some paragraphs. In addition, we read the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We then turned all of our 2nd grade classrooms into rooms from the book. Each room had a different activity that was based on our standards. Again, engagement was at an all time high! Thank you again for the materials to help make these types of days possible!

    We very much appreciate it!”

  • Photo Backdrops Galore!

    Funded May 4, 2021

I am so excited to see this project get funded. I love using photo backdrops to help transform my room. It is easy to take a backdrop and staple it to the wall. My classroom goes from an ordinary room to a carnival, police station, the Old West, and even under the sea. The kids love coming into the room and seeing their ordinary classroom become a magical place. When kids are engaged and excited about learning, they are more likely to remember what they are learning. Thank you for helping to make this project come alive.”

  • More Books!

    Funded May 4, 2021

I was so excited to see this project get funded. I have an amazing library and pride myself in having lots of books for the kids to use. When the kids have a variety to choose from, they are more likely to read. I do not have as many books at the lower levels and so this project allowed me to fill those baskets up! They are engaging books and I have no doubt the kids will enjoy them. Two of the sets were comic books and the kids will absolutely devour these. Thanks again for helping to make this project come alive!”

  • Incentive Time

    Funded May 2, 2021

I was so excited to see this project get funded. I wanted to try something new next year as an incentive. I saw this amazing idea online where kids earn stickers for their water bottles. They earn the stickers for behaving, having great work, being a fantastic second grader, etc. With your donation, I was able to get enough water bottles for the entire class and lots and lots of different stickers. Doing new little things in the classroom helps to keep engagement high! Thank you for helping to make this project come alive! I can't wait to try this out with the kids!”

Glenbrook is an amazing school of about 600 students! We have a very diverse population at Glenbrook. I am lucky to have a wonderful class of second grade students that are going to tackle technology this year! We are in need of 1 more iPad to be a 1:1 classroom.
